Jeanie slept the whole night as she hadn´t done in a long time. But as usual at the countryside, the morning sounds woke her up. It was a sweet symphony of many birds singing at the same time the sunrise came up and lighted her face through the window. She yawned, stretched herself and smiled. She was feeling especially good that morning. Running to the bathroom she called everyone up and quickly came out of it completely clean and with a new outfit.
- I´m going to take Rocco for a walk – she announced and left with the cub without expecting an answer.
The animal walked at her side waiving his tale and; looking closely, people could say they were both smiling equally. It was a sunny, but fresh Saturday and she was full of energy. She wasn´t sure if it was the countryside's air, the time with the dog or the long night of sleep, but something made her forget she was missing her friends. Some time with family is always good and getting away from all technology was more liberating than she expected. Anyway, she was carrying her phone to take pictures of Rocco at the Square when a miracle happened. It rang!
- Hello? – she said to the unknown number.
- Jeanie! At last you pick it up! – screams came out from the other side of the line – I´ve been calling you the whole weekend! Where are you?
- I´m sorry, who´s this? – she hesitated overwhelmed because of the yelling – Why do you scream?
- It´s me! Ashley! You spent two days without giving life signals and now you don´t even recognize my voice?!
- I´m at the countryside, at my grandma´s farm. Phone signal is a miracle here! I know you´re screaming because I can hear you without the phone! But I barely recognized your voice. And – she got surprised – Since when do you have a phone?
- It´s not mine, it´s my dad´s, but I had to call you. I was worried about you. You are not here! And you didn´t even write?
- I´m sorry. My parents wanted us to spend the weekend here. I´m out with my aunt´s dog. Running away!
- Funny – she tried to smile, but could´t – When are you coming?
- I have to go to my new apartment tomorrow. So… Maybe next week? – she shriveled fearing Ashley´s reaction from the distance - I´m so sorry Ashley!
- You better be – she complained – I´ll wait for you next week and I hope you don´t let me hanging.
- I won´t. I promise.
- You must! See you!
Jeanie knew Ashley´s temper and even without seeing her face to face, she knew rage was just an expression to describe her anger at the moment. Jeanie was angry as well. All her plans were cancelled, but on the bright side of things, she spent time with her family, had a new temporary pet and she even received the miracle of phone signal; so even if she missed her friends, she was happy. And anyway, she was going back that afternoon so she could get ready to leave to her new life at the next morning.
