Chapter 151

"Alpha Thresh is holding his position but we're losing people out here." Came the radio report.

I listened as they continued to come in, "We have a healer down in Alpha Kratos's position, need back-up."

"No sign of Elves as of yet."

Raph was currently relaying orders to Louis the head warrior's position in the mountain pass skirting close to where we'd found Raph when he'd nearly died.

I continued to watch, Mark and Nathan were next to me, all of us observing the carnage of war.

All of a sudden the forest lit with a sickly green light and we heard yelling over one of the radio channels.

My mouth parted in shock at the massive scorched earth where the green energy had hit.

-Was that what Elves can do?- I asked Raph. The entire tent had gone silent.

-Yes. Chains can't protect you from that.-

I swallowed sensing his fear, not of the Elves, but for me. He was afraid he wouldn't be able to protect me from it. I was afraid I wouldn't be protected from it.

"Lilla, get to the lake position, it's in critical we don't know how many but there'll be lots." Someone spoke into the radio.

"On my way." Came a feminine voice.

My eyes flickered down, 'More people than I could count.'

"This is Rob, enemy is retreating here, should we divert forces to the mountain pass?"

"Negative, hold your position." I turned when I heard Raph speak, "It might be a trick stand your ground."

Still looking at him I asked, -What about Amelia?-

He looked on at me and shook his head, -I don't trust her, Brooke.-

-I know you don't, but there must be a reason she's here. She keeps saying that she's our help here, why not let her help?- I said watching his gold eyes carefully.

He ran a hand through his silver hair, -Not yet.-

I bit the inside of my lip and refocused on the battlefield.

~~~~~~~
Thomas crashed through the trees and came into a clearing covered in deep, untouched snow.
Behind him came barreling a rhinoceros, running at top speed in his direction.
Thomas scanned the area for obstacles but none came into sight.
Turning sharply to his left he aimed to reenter the trees but hearing a shriek above him he saw a large bird circling and ready to dive.
The rhino was on his heels as he had finally finished a rough plan.
Quickly shifting he dove into the snow and rolled to the side, the rhino charged right past him. Hearing a shriek and discernible whistle of something cutting through the air Thomas was reminded of the falcon who was now diving towards him, it's talons outstretched to kill him.
Shifting back he sped as quickly as he could for the sparse tree line. He wouldn't make it, deciding to camouflage he dove to his left and disappeared from view.
He watched as the falcon recovered from its steep decline and spiralled in the sky moving onto other targets.
Breathing a sigh of relief he rose to his feet and shook the snow from his brown coat.
Without warning he heard a loud pounding and turning his head he saw the rhino charging at him once more.
Seeing as there was no chance of escape he tensed and waited for the blow.
A bright light suddenly appeared before Thomas's eyes and he saw the rhino crash to the side, dead.
-Alpha!- He exclaimed happily as he saw the black wolf standing near the trees.
Thresh moved on and Thomas headed back to the forest to hold the enemy back.
The trees were sparse here compared to home but still dense enough to create multiple obstacles.
Hearing cries for help he ran in that direction, his nose soon picking up the familiar scent of an Elf. This must've been the one that had caused that green energy.
Slowing in his gait as he neared the place, he bared his teeth a growl puttering from his throat.
Before him the tall skeletal Elf had just gutted a Lycan and tossed the body away.
Hearing the growl the Elf turned and smirked seeing the small Lycan, thinking he was inexperienced and not the third in command of Thresh's Pack.
Thomas circled the Elf from behind the trees waiting for the moment to strike. A larger tree came up and as he passed behind it he cloaked and doubled back surprising the Elf.
Going for the kill he lunged for the Elf's neck and threw him off balance but he hadn't been able to get his throat.
The Elf began speaking and soon the trees were caving in on them and Thomas felt branches grab him and raise him in the air.
A yelp of pain left his mouth as it squeezed him painfully.
The Elf laughed gratingly as it stood watching the Lycan being constricted.
Thomas shifted to human and felt the branch immediately tighten around him. Groaning from the pain he reached for the serrated knife on his belt and sawed through a branch then began hacking through them.
The Elf continually tried to send more branches at him but to no avail.
Thomas landed in the trampled snow and brought his knife up, ready for attack.
His breath misted in the cold air but it didn't bother him, the adrenaline running through his body was enough to keep him energized.
The Elf stood, his thin body engulfed in the smoke while it flashed green from it's magic.
Sprinting to it's left Thomas sliced it's leg and then faking right he got it's ribs.
The two wounds began to ooze a swampy green mist that smelled worse than the grey smoke.
Coughing, Thomas jumped and sliced the Elf's neck before shifting and holding him down with a deadly grip on it's neck. A sickening crack followed and the green glow stopped.
Standing, Thomas took a few moments to catch his breath then ran back to the lake where the most fighting was.
