Chapter 61- Choices

Everyone says Nakamura Sachiko made a choice to stand against Jujutsu society but Fushiguro Megumi thinks otherwise.

After spending a few days healing, Megumi had a chance to recollect his thoughts and realized how he ended up treating Sachiko. She had always had her carefree and seemingly unreliable, irresponsible personality and her motives were sometimes questionable.

But, he had to admit that she saved them on more than one occasion. She never made those a big deal so they didn't actually realize the extent of those privileges they were getting until they witnessed what it was like to be at Shibuya.

He thought he was doing the right thing when they decided to confront Sachiko but he realized that they were just treating her as a culprit without knowing the whole truth and listen her side of story.

Before he knew what the higher ups' orders were that day, Megumi also thought Sachiko went mad.

But, it turned out that Sachiko only did that because the higher ups sent everyone against her to prevent Gojo's escape. She did that to save Gojo sensei. Megumi concluded it like that.

And then he thought how she could had been pushed to the edge by everything.

They treated her pretty badly after Riko's incident and higher ups accused her as a traitor.

Then, he even talked to Gojo sensei about her which could come as an attempt to make Gojo suspect her, that is if she knew.

Still, Megumi knew he was partially responsible for that.

He could understand her if she wanted to return the favor.

He could understand because Jujutsu society right now still had not learned.

They still declared that Nakamura Sachiko was a criminal for working with curses, killing people in Shibuya and colluding with Gojo who was also a criminal responsible for events in Shibuya.

Megumi wanted to laugh at the irony.

If he were given a choice, he too would have chose to stand against them.

Because that was wrong in his view.

----------------------

The first thing Sachiko saw when she woke up was the unfamiliar room and the next was the woman sitting on one of the armchairs.

Ash blonde hair and brown eyes that were looking at her in surprise....

And Sachiko couldn't help but mutter a name.

"Yumi?"

The woman swallowed quietly and took a glance at the door as if she was hoping for someone to arrive.

"I thought...you were dead..How..?"

"Look..I'm.."

Sachiko wanted to believe Yumi was alive this whole time and this was the Yumi she knew, but remembering what her mom did, she found herself looking at Yumi suspiciously.

She darted her eyes through the room to see where she was and what she should be expecting only to find the prison realm on opposite of the sofa she was lying on.

Sachiko looked back at Yumi once, before eyeing at the prison realm.

Yumi seemed to catch on her intentions as she hurriedly grabbed the prison realm and held close to her chest.

"You're not taking this away!" She told her.

"You're not Yumi, are you?" Sachiko mumbled.

"I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Just like mom wasn't mom, you probably aren't even Yumi!"

Sachiko went silent for a while after that.

Only after a minute or so, she continued, although this time, the words were in mumbles, as if she was just trying to talk to herself or convince herself.

"Because mom wouldn't have done that to me.. Right?"

The last part unintentionally turned out as a question and the moment she realized this, Sachiko laughed dryly.

"Give it back, Yumi. I don't want to kill you too."

"You have to, if you want to get this back. Because I'm not giving this back as long as I'm alive." Yumi said.

"Why are you doing this, Yumi?" Sachiko was still puzzled. She tried to look up on the possibilities surrounding this Yumi in front of her but it was quite blurry. But, one thing was sure.

It was Yumi.

Which was worse because Sachiko knew she couldn't kill her in cold blood like she did to those Jujutsu sorcerers and curse users.

"It's funny...that I want to convince myself..That mom didn't do what she did..that I have never been betrayed by the ones who I love and care for.. It's really ironic that I told everyone that I do whatever I want and I don't give a sh*t about the world and the greater good and stuff..But somehow, I screwed up. I don't know how but that moment I hesitated.. to just kill them all. If I did, Satoru would be here now with me, instead of me waking up here and having a stupid conversation with you because I am hesitating again..to just kill you and get him back."

"You know what, Sachiko chan? That's your problem. You think you don't care but you do. You allow yourself to get overwhelmed by all those emotions and let them make a decision for you." Yumi told her.

"It's okay I get it. You never really got friends so it's understable that you can be pretty protective to those you hold dear."

"I care for them. That's all."

"What about him? Gojo Satoru? I heard he's like your boyfriend?"

"I'm gonna get him out of there no matter what it takes." Sachiko replied.

"Oh you would? But you aren't even trying now." Yumi said. "Give it up, Sachiko chan. You know you can't save us both. Besides, you're not into heroics right ? So, choose one. Kill me and save him or let me go with prison realm."

"That's right, I'm not into that hero stuff. But, it doesn't mean I have to let people I love die. I loved you as of you were my own sister, Yumi. And I love Satoru. Although you might be with the one who sealed him, still it's..hard to choose your death." Sachiko said.

"But.." Sachiko recalled how Satoru trusted her.

He trusted her to help him during Shibuya incident which she failed.

She knew Satoru would have trusted her to free him from there.

Because she overheard him saying he knew and trust her to Megumi.

She couldn't let him down again.

Could she?

Besides, Satoru's the only one she has left.

Mom..did that and her classmates... treated her different.

But, Satoru trusted her.

She couldn't lose him as well.

"I'm sorry, Yumi. But, maybe you're right." Sachiko said before using her cursed energy to slice Yumi's neck.

Blood gushed out from Yumi's throat and her eyes widened in surprise.

"You'll always be a sister to me, Yumi but..I just can't let him down again. I just can't.."

Besides, Yumi was the one who made her choose.

And, most importantly, she was working with the one who sealed Gojo.

Sachiko tried to shake off the guilt and sadness she felt after that before retrieving the prison realm from Yumi's hands.

She watched as Yumi took her last breath.

"Yumi....."

Sachiko held Yumi's hands as she cried.

If this was a normal occasion, she would've held her hands a lot longer while muttering out apologies but Sachiko knew she needed to go now to ensure Satoru's freedom.

So, she let go of Yumi's hands reluctantly before holding the prison realm and prepared to leave.

However, a voice coming from the door made her pause.

"Where are you going after killing my Yumi?" *Sachiko said as she walked in, her eyes fixated on Sachiko.

Sachiko also took a look at her face and her eyes widened the moment she saw her face.

*Sachiko said with a flash of smile, "Finally, we meet."
