CHAPTER - XVI

It was a night of darkness, a chaotic stormy night. The wind was howling outside, and the snow was falling down in sheets. Oxyvi was all alone in the room, panicking. She heard a good amount of knocking at the door. She wiped the tears from her face, and hesitatingly got up to and neared the door. But when she looked through the peephole, she saw no one there, as usual.

A few minutes later, she heard another knock. This time, it was louder. She got up again and looked through the peephole, but still saw no one there. She started to feel dizzy with fear and frustrated in agitation, she gathered the courage and unlocked the door to face whatever it was. As she was about to open the door, she heard footsteps coming from the corridor. She backed away, and froze in fear as the footsteps grew louder and louder. Suddenly, the door to her room creaked open. She saw a figure standing in the doorway.

It was a man, Oxyvi tried to scream, but no sound came out of her mouth. In panic she started looking for something for her defense.

"Oxyvi calm down its me." She saw in the direction of the voice and sighed louder. "Oh God Lucas, who was it?" She wept the sweat and drank the water.

"It was only for the room service, no need to panic. I told the guards and servants not to disturb you anymore, and most importantly you are safe here." Lucas lied to her only to assure her. She nodded in return and closed the door and locked it. She hurriedly got refreshed and ate some food to relax herself and picked up her phone to send the incomplete message to Emma. In the chaos of the night, she felt worn out and soon she went into a deep slumber the moment she laid on the bed.

Next Morning.

The Seeker

As the clock ticked towards the eleventh hour, I found myself in the mortuary, face to face with a mummified being shrouded in sorcery. The very thought of touching it sent shivers down my spine, yet here I was, thanks to Lucas' insistence. I saw Lou in the distance puking all over the place. I felt pity for her she is very sensitive when it comes to dead beings. I also couldn't stand there without trembling because it wasn't a fully preserved one and looked like it went through a lot of torture, even its face was opened like it was screaming in agony.

But as panic set in, I couldn't help but wonder if Alec's request was worth the risk. What if this cursed object brought doom upon us all? I'm not the superstitions one but since I stepped here reality has been long lost. My fears were compounded by the fact that someone from the castle was already after me.

As Alec appeared with his ominous presence, my anxiety peaked. But before I could voice my concerns, he uttered the ominous words, "every action has its consequences." And then, as if possessed, I bolted out of the mortuary and made a beeline for Lucas' room.

He beseeched me to try amongst the scholars, and gather as much information about this mummy as they had found over the period of time. Study it, and learn its ancient tales, with them. And at last, accompany him inside the castle.

I could feel someone following me, matching my pace step by step. Once in Lucas' room, I snatched the keys and made my way to his office. My search for my missing documents led me to his locker. But before I could find them, Lucas appeared, pulling me away and refusing to give me my wallet until the job was done. Two men grabbed me from behind and dragged me again in the mortuary with the tip of gun pointed on my head.

As I stood there, trembling with fear, Alec's scowl reminded me of the deal we had made.

"Stop Denying my orders, this is the last warning." He threatened me and narrowed his eyes.
