Oxyvi's breath caught in her throat. She couldn't see his face, but she knew it was him. The air around her grew colder, the sky darker, as if the world itself was holding its breath.
"Why me?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
"You know why," he replied, his tone laced with a darkness that echoed the void in his soul.
