As I sat there, trying to steady my nerves, I felt a surge of apprehension. What could this personal matter be, and why did it require my presence? With a deep breath, I spoke up. "I am here now, and I want to know the actual reason for my summons. However, I hope that whatever it is, it won't endanger my life, Alec Quinsley"
My tone firm as I turned to face him. "I am ready to assist, but I need to know what I am getting into. What is it that you want me to do?" As I awaited their response, I couldn't help but wonder if this task would involve the castle. The thought sent shivers down my spine but excitement too.
"So eager to assist without hesitation, this can only happen when you are looking for an opportunity to find something that benefits you."
"Why am I thinking that you are doubting me for something? When I should be the one doubting every one of you including Lou, is there something I should be afraid of other than that shadow"
"You are so good at digging your own grave by stepping inside of that place but this is not the only reason you are here for." He paused and inspected me briefly for a minute.
"How do you know that abundant side of the castle?"
"I do not know how I reached there." I diverted my gaze and felt speechless because what would I tell him, that I followed fireflies? He would not believe me and definitely doubt me that I intentionally performed the intrusion. It sounds rubbish to me as well.
"The shadow compelled you, right?" He narrowed his eyes at me. I knew he didn't believe the shit I said to him back in the car.
"But it's the truth, Alec" I knew I'm telling him the half-truth but I couldn't just tell him fireflies compelled me. But his eyes again telling me that he knows something and I should tell him before the massacre occurs.
"If you were done doubting me, can you please let me know what was the work? And if I'm not that special then why are you having private meetings with me, that too, second time" I raised my eyebrows. He chuckled. And said…
"No, you are not special Oxyvi, you are a suspect and I wanted to make sure that you do not harm and try to tarnish my property reputation in any way." I chuckled like Quinsley castle is an abode of angels. He narrowed his eyes at me "Now tell me who was with you?"
"Stop accusing me and stop pointing finger at me when your three fingers are facing on your side. I do not know who you are referring to but what if that one wanted to kill me." I retort. I knew he wouldn't believe me as he was too adamant to believe me as a culprit.
"To seek out the secrets of antiquity, one must journey with a trusted ally. A fellow traveler who has navigated the roads and knows the paths to lower the gates of protection. Someone who is well-versed in the hidden royal corridors that lead to the grand halls of splendor, where the treasures of the ages await. Yet, for an archaeologist, the true magic lies in uncovering these treasures with their own hands. Am I right Miss Oxyvi Sagitta?"
"Stop thinking so low of me. I'm here because Lucas called us here in the first place and he didn't tell me about the location. And if I know my way out, then why had I need to even place the call to rescue me." I justified.
"How come I manage to understand your plot when your own colleagues unambiguous of you being not a victim." I was beyond shocked.
"Keep them away from the shadows of your uncertainties, Mr. Quinsley." I curtly told him. In response he chuckled, darkly this time and glared at me.
"You better get ready for what comes next for you, Miss Sagitta."
"Should I be scared for my life?"
"Yes"
I widened my eyes.
