Artemis was tired of wandering around in a dark house, so he has no choice but to join the orange sleeve and the blondie.
'Wa-wait up!' he called to them abruptly. They ignored him the first time, and the second time as well. Only after the third time, she responded annoyed.
'Whaaat?' she rubbed her temples.
'Please, I need to find my sister. You can only help me.' he gulped.
She scanned him again from head to toe and snorted. The nerve!
'Help? You and your sister? Yeah, as if. This is the only torch we have.' she held up the torch they were using. It looked like the torch they use in those forest exploration shows where they travel completely in the dark to capture the predators. Or in paranormal shows to catch ghosts. Either way it looked bright and powerful, and the battery might probably last longer than you'd think.
'How about this? I-I just come here and search for my sister with the light. You wouldn't even notice me here.'
She sighed and rolled her eyes, and nodded.
'Fine, whatever, but not a peep. You can find your damn sis-'
AAAAH!
There was a loud thud and a scream, echoing through the halls. Artemis's eyes widened and he ran through the halls.
'Audrey?'
'Arty!' she screamed, and they were both running in different directions like headless chickens.
'Audrey, where the heck are you?' he screamed. He collapsed under something hard, a grandfather clock evident from its sound, and the glass shattering in pieces.
'Oww!' he let out a harsh breath. First his back, now his hands. He felt his hand throbbing and something wet, probably wet.
'Calm down, superman, this place is loaded with furniture and traps in every inch, and it's impossible to go anywhere without the light. I told you to stay, you idiot.' she dragged him down.
'B-but my sister…'
'Yeah yeah she's probably here somewhere, that idiot.' she rolled her eyes and dragged him on the ground.
Audrey and Misty each took careful steps to step on any of the traps, but doing it while dragging a bloodied Artemis around wasn't an easy task. Artemis wasn't able to move his hand, and he felt something warm and wet dribble down his fingers and around his left elbow.
He even tasted iron in his mouth when he fell flat on his face after being hit.
'You need to slow down!' he yelled, his wounds now visible under the dim sunlight.
'Noooo, I need to go home in an hour or two, so I'm going and I don't care if you are coming or not, I'm not going to slow down. I heard that there are mutants roaming these halls, let's find them!' she jumped and plopped Art on the ground.
'Ow.' he winced and felt pieces of glass on his hand when he ran through them. They felt so unavoidable if he just took a flashlight with him, not only his cap.
'I need to ugh, f-find my sister.' he grumbled.
Audrey was crying at this point, her face hot from the heat and the panic. Artemis was right, there were so many spiders and obstacles, she couldn't find anything at all. She should've brought a torch or at least her phone, she just wanted to go home and have dinner with her family.
She waddled up and down the chairs and the tables, and the shelves, and accidentally touched a rope. The rope immediately swooped her up, admitting its evil plans.
'Oh my god, oh my god, Artemis was soo right, I just want to go home, please!! Artemis!!' she screamed, even though she would be grounded for life, at least she would do that on her own terms. Artemis might bury her in this very soil, and her funeral inside this abandoned house, but she didn't care, it's better to get mauled by him than by furniture and spiders.
As she was swinging upside down by the rope and calling for help, she heard something from somewhere, even though she couldn't pinpoint where exactly it was coming from, she could sense it came from somewhere underground.
There were tiny booms and crackling to be heard, it was so faint that you could barely hear it. But after losing one sense, the others become so terrifyingly powerful to the point you could even hear colors.
She clawed the rope with her nails, it didn't work, so she tried biting it, and choking it with her hands, but nothing worked. She sensed some danger, but it was so intriguing, what could be underground? Not a spider for sure.
Belle and Misty heard that sound too. They were jumping from glee when they heard that taint bubbling and crackling from exactly under where they were standing. They knew something was underground, the campfire stories testified that rumor. It was true after all, there was a secret underground labarotry in this abandoned mansion.
No one actually knows what is going on, some say they od illegal drugs testing or they experimented on humans during the war, even stories like building a time machine, and that they have come from the future to warn them of great danger, these are all variations of the story.
The most telling one is that the people who were experimented on, the mutants were left freezing in cryogenic fluid so they can be retrieved for future use, somewhere under the mansion. A boy said it was directly under the biggest chandelier, believed to be near a two-hundred and fifty years old grandfather clock, where the townsfolk could still hear its midnight chime from inside.
They speculated that it was the only living thing inside this lifeless house.
She was glad that cap boy sacrificed himself for the sake of adventure. So to be thankful she dragged him around while he was complaining something about his sister and how he shouldn't have hurt her, yada yada....
'I shouldn't have come here, there's nothing except dust, and I keep hearing Audrey scream. Are we going to find this or not?' Artemis whined.
'I researched the mansion, there seems to be no record of a laboratory.' a voice beeped from her earphones.
'Code medal, Baker, it seems like there is something active inside this dead house after all...'
