"You sure you don't need any help?"
I shook my head and playfully pushed Elise's hand away from me. I had made sure to bring my messenger bag today with the lightest load possible and carried it on my right shoulder to avoid any rubbing against my back.
"It's literally weightless," I rolled my eyes, "but thank you."
"Okay, but if you need help with it just say so."
"I will, thanks."
We left home earlier than usual as to not make me rush. We didn't live far from campus but I couldn't handle walking faster than a regular slow-paced walk, the wound on my thigh was throbbing. I had to stop every couple of minutes and breathe just to let the pain subside before continuing my walk.
The walk itself seemed eternal. My heart was racing and I was trying so hard for Elise not to notice how nervous I was. I needed her to be as calm and quirky as she always was; I needed her to be normal in my life.
"Well, we're a couple of minutes early. Wanna wait outside?"
