Steps were echoing in the hallway that was usually filled with silence. They were small and quiet. Careful yet precise. Steps that wouldn't be discovered so soon.
They knew they had to be careful so that they could finish this mission. The last time they were discovered earlier but that was alright then. Now they had to be extra careful. There was no time calculated for screwing up.
The hacker team was quick and effective as well. They were running in the front. Opening doors. Every unit had at least one hacker with them. The next runner was the checker. He checked if there was any danger like cameras, guards, and other stuff. Then came a small batch of operators. They were the ones assigned to search for the desired files to steal. Everyone had a certain one to take care of since the truth already checked the layout and knew where which files would be. Lastly, there was a guard. A guard equipped with a gun and a taser so that he could shock guards or other people that discovered them.
The team with their leader had the biggest information search to fulfill. They had a few more operators but not many. No the biggest difference that one could see immediately was that there was no checker or hacker with them but the leader. The leader would both act as checker and hacker while also having a small portion of information to search.
With only a few hand gestures after they arrived the leader spread the operators. They seemed like little ants gathering food for their colony so the hooded figure had to chuckle a little bit. Humans always act high and mighty yet they share so many traits with animals that they couldn't even imagine…
With a grin spread on the figure's face, it also moved towards their files. The guard was stationed at the door keeping a (probably) grim face. You couldn't really see that through the mask though…
Everyone wore a face mask so their identity would be protected. Everyone was told to NEVER put them off. That doing so would endanger their whole operation. That it would fail everything. It was important to remember that. Extremely. Their leader told them a thousand times really like a mother warning her dumb children to finally understand the gist of it.
But the mask was stuffy. And some people thought that just a little time wouldn't hurt. That just a little time was no harm. What should happen? What are the chances? Some people were selfish enough to put it off even if they should keep guarding. Like Luke who was assigned to guard the team right now. I mean what could go wrong? What could happen?
Click.
Someone entered. But Luke saw no problem. After all, he wore a guard uniform. As long as he wasn't discovered by a scientist or someone who organizes stuff then he would be fine, right?
The person was indeed someone who was just send to get some files. A completely normal person. Someone who wouldn't even suspect Luke. That would be at least the case if this person was TRULY ordinary.
The one sent had an ordinary look. Honey brown hair with dark brown eyes. They looked slightly tired and on his chin stubbles formed themselves. He wore a long kittle and a white shirt as well. His whole outfit was so white it hurt one's eyes. Ordinary yet…
As the man looked to the side he greets the guard with a small smile however there was no tone coming out of his mouth. His expression changed from shock to being horrified. There was something in his eyes. It was the glimmer of panic. His breathing started to be irregular and his mouth slowly opened to scream.
Luke on the other side was completely frozen as well as he stared into the other one's face. What were the odds? They were extremely thin yet… There was only one option. He knew that immediately. With one small grip towards his side, he took out his gun.
Bang.
A bullet pierced through the other one's head. They were quite antique weapons but the best ones to get. They weren't registered by the government after all.
Everyone's head in the room shot up at the sudden noise. And as they saw the cruel scene their faces reflected their shocks. There would always be a violent fraction in the organization. But the leader usually made sure no one was hurt. That it would be a peaceful revolution where no civilians would be harmed.
Their leader was the first one to move. Their steps were extremely fast and ran towards the one who shot.
Slap.
The force behind this slap still echoed through the whole room. It filled the dead silence.
"ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?!", the hooded figure screamed. It was not high-pitched. More like a growling wolf. It sent shivers through Lukes's spine
But they weren't finished: "ARE YOU? Not only did you just KILL someone but also put off your mask! ARE YOU AN IDIOT?".
"If I didn't he would have called the guards on us", Luke slowly said. He was extremely terrified but he had to defend himself right now. After all, it was the right thing to do he would have-
"He would have WHAT? He was extremely shocked I bet you that! He's an ordinary person! A person with a family Luke! You didn't kill a minion but a PERSON. His blood is smeared on your hands. You have killed an ordinary person when there is. No. one. Like. Him.", The hooded figure growled while taking steps towards the "guard".
And this guard was shocked. He looked at the now empty and cold figure. He now saw how cruel his fault was. He had thought this person was like… Still had… No… no no nO-
The hooded figure closed the dead man's shocked eyes. "We have everything we wanted yet lost every last bit of honor today. Let's clean up", the figure looked at Luke. Said one only nodded. This was the only way he could atone for what he had done… And how he could not endanger their whole operation.
And so the clean-up began.
