Wonders of liquid mana

Last night I have done some more research. I drink one liter of liquid mana. It wasn't pleasant as far as the taste goes. But when it mixed with other drinks it created miracles. Again, not about the taste. I couldn't even find a way to make it less disturbing to drink.

First of all, when it is mixed with a sports drink it strengthens all of my body. The effect is not much and temporary but still useful. I will call it a strength potion. The sports drink I used was one of the most popular ones recently. It turns out this drink is created solely for athletes but two months ago it became available to the public.

The second is orange juice. It worked like a health potion. I don't know all of the fruits have the same effect but if they do it will be good. At this point, I'm thinking that there is a different logic behind all of this. Why the heck orange juice would have a healing effect, right? It will be hard for me to crack this logic.

My third and last experiment for the night was with coke. It gave an agility boost much greater than I would have expected. But it has a terrible downside. If I move at that speed I will hurt my muscles. Tearing them apart might not be impossible. I don't know why it gave me an agility boost. Maybe carbohydrate inside of it is the cause. Like, seriously what kind of logic does this follow?!

There was also an unexpected side effect. My mana reserves rose. Now it is five times bigger than before. But with the rise of mana, my control of it dropped. Apparently, it gets harder to control when your mana increases. I will need to practice more with mana.

However, bigger mana reserves are always welcome. It will be helpful to me in many ways. Right now I can do small magic tricks at most. With more mana, I will be able to do flashy magic I see in anime, movies, and such. Hopefully.

Just like the other day, I prepared my bag, had my breakfast, and went to school. I haven't come across Jason because I am going to school early today. He likes to sleep and usually gets up like half an hour later than now. Anyways, I couldn't wait to see how far I can go now. With the larger reserves of mana, I can possibly do more than before. Still, my control of it dropped so I'm not entirely sure right now so this is both exciting and worrying for me.

I might be a little bit more early than I thought. There is only one more person in the classroom besides me. She is Fern Thorn. She is taller than most of the boys in our classroom. She has curly brown hair reaches her back, sharp brown eyes that can easily scare a person. She is the model figure of 'the cool beauty'.

"Oscar... you are here early. You usually come with Jason. Barely reaching before the bell rings."

"And you are even earlier than me. Good morning, Fern. And for the record, that was in middle school. I'm trying to do better now."

"...Good morning. Yeah, you are right, sorry about that. You look unusually excited. Did something good happen?"

How sharp! She wasn't this sharp at middle school. Have to play it cool, Oscar. Play it cool.

"I slept early. You know I have trouble getting up early. Today I get my sleep after a long time."

"You had trouble getting up because you sleep late. I remember you always watch anime and cartoons until late at night."

"Ugh!! Don't slap me with the truth! It hurts."

"Hahaha! You are still amusing. You should keep sleeping early from now. It's much better when you are this lively, compared to-"

"You know what? I will try it."

"Uh...fine, I guess..."

Her seat was in the middle of the class. I walked past her but when she uttered something I didn't expect, my whole body froze. Just as we were talking nicely she had to disturb it!

"You said that nightmares kept you awake at night. I am glad that you can sleep now. After what happened to Nora you-"

"Do not speak her name. You do not deserve it."

My voice was colder than usual but it also contained my anger, hatred. It was even foreign to me. I didn't see her face. But I heard she dropped the pen played with. She is shocked. Because this is the first time I speak what I think about her. She knew it but I guess it was unexpected for her.

"I am sorry."

"Unfortunately the one you should apologize for is no longer with us."

She is silent. Like always. Knowing and not talking, I hate this side of her.

When I come to myself it was already lunch break. Once again I lost myself in the sad memories of the past. After I got the power of mana it happens a lot. I know the reason but admitting it will change me. My goal of becoming the first mage on earth is also effecting by it. I... am afraid to admit it. But I can't escape from it forever.

Can I bring someone back from the dead? This thought continuously spun around my mind. Mana is powerful but as far as I know, it is not almighty.

Losing someone close to you is bad. When you could save them but still get late to do it is the worst thing. If I knew sooner maybe I could change everything. But it is too late now.

"Do you have a habit of falling into your thoughts?"

Lydia's voice pulled me out of my thoughts, again. It is becoming a common occurrence at this point.

"I didn't. But I suppose it is becoming a habit."

"Is it about the thing we talked about yesterday?"

"Not really."

While Lydia and I talked Jason and Hope were looking at us. I could see them at the side of my vision. My hearing was barely able to pick what they were saying.

"Aren't they seem closer to you?"

"They didn't even talk to each other yesterday. Of course, they seem closer, Jason."

"You are right."

This is embarrassing. Listening to what they talk about me is a bit embarrassing.

"Oi! I can hear you, you know!"

"And?"

"...Sometimes you left me speechless."

"Because of my great mind, right?"

"Sure. Your mind is fascinating. I seriously wonder how you survive all these years."

The laughter of Hope and Lydia interrupted our conversation. Well, it was not exactly a conversation. Jason is the only person I could talk to without worrying about anything.

"You guys are really good friends."(Lydia)

"We are best friends!"(Jason)

"Yes, he is my best friend."(Oscar)

"Today we have PE class. I heard that teacher will make us compete against each other. It is exciting!"(Hope)

"You have some serious excitement problem."(Oscar)

"She definitely has one."(Lydia)

After hearing what we said Hope started to pout. Jason was unusually thinking hard. I wonder what he is thinking right now.

"What is wrong with the excitement problem?"(Jason)

"I didn't say anything was wrong with it."(Lydia)

It was my bad. I expected too much.

"PE class, ha... I don't get why it is exciting for you."(Oscar)

"Maybe competing against each other can be fun. I have a score to settle with you."(Jason)

"Now this is exciting. Oscar vs Jason. Who do you think will win, Hope?"(Lydia)

"Of course, Jason will win. No offense Oscar."(Hope)

"None taken."(Oscar)

"I think Oscar will win."(Lydia)

Not the brag but I am stronger than him. However, he evens the playground with his speed. He has insane leg muscles. Aside from his speed, his kicks are extremely strong. He is like a freaking rabbit!

"I will leave you on my dust, again!"

"Not this time. I am better than ever. You will be the one who is left in the dust."

"Now we are talking. Show me your best, Oscar!"

"Why are you sound like a shonen antagonist?!"

"..."

"Heh."

I got you. For the first time in my life. I can die in peace now. Wait, before it, I have to make him admit watching anime. He is a secret anime watcher and I will reveal his secret!
