Disclaimer - (Cause fanfiction is tricky ground and I hope not to offend the creator of the original story and get sued)

I do not own "Darwin's Game", it belongs to its original creator Flipflops and Shū Miyama. This is only a fanfiction that I was inspired to write by the original work. Please support the official release. Most of the media - such as the art and illustrations, gifs, video's, etc. used in this fanfiction - are from the web. Thus, most of them aren't mine (because I really, really can't draw) unless mentioned. To fit the story, images are also edited by various apps and websites. So they aren't mine, just edited.

Also if you own a picture or Video that I found online, and you either want your name added, or me to take it down. Please contact me and we can talk it out. P.s. I also ask that you do not copy my work and publish it onto any other website.

If you're gonna use my idea, please ask me (If you ask nicely, I for sure, will agree). If I don't contact you within a week, then just assume I'm giving you the all clear and go for it. Just remember to credit me.

I will be writing out scenes even if my Oc isn't in them. As long as she's mentioned, or influencing the characters in some way. Or maybe because it influences the story. This may seem a bit annoying. But that's just how I write. I like to embed my characters into the story line. Because of this, most of the dialogue/scenes will come from the original work.

Today's Special

I'm worried about you…

I want so much to call you…

To hear your voice and know that you're ok.

I hope you know that you're never alone as you may feel…

You're always in my thoughts.

{Third P.O.V.}

It had started off as just a regular morning for the couple, they had eaten breakfast and were walking to their school.

Anna walked next to her boyfriend, her fingers scrolling through various posts, until she stopped at one. "Hey Kaname, have you heard about this cool body outline pixel art someones been carving into the ground? It's been popping up everywhere lately?" The Omega asked excitedly, turning her screen around to show the alpha.

"Has it?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

Anna nodded, "I don't get why they choose to add blood, but the pixel art itself is actually pretty cool. It's all anyone has been talking about."

"See you during lunch." Kaname said, giving Anna a kiss on the head.

"Yep." The blond smiled, before walking toward her class.

*****

The first four periods flew by within a blink of an eye, and soon Anna was making her way towards Kaname's class, her lunch swinging loosely on her wrist.

Kaname rose his head up at once when he smelt her rose and strawberry scent with a hint of fresh mint. "You're later than usual." He commented.

"Mis. Hondina kept us a little later than usual." The omega sighed, pulling up a chair next to her. She then turned her gaze to the bike catalogue Kaname was flipping through, "Still looking at those bikes?"

The alpha sighed, "Even a secondhand medium-sized motorcycle costs a lot of money. I need to find a good job."

His grandfather was gone, and Kaname would only be receiving money from the government for another year. And Anna's parents were living overseas. They didn't mind the pair living together and were even willing to pay for their apartment and gave them a monthly allowance for food, water, and other such necessities. But if they wanted anything else, they were expected to get a part time job for it. They wouldn't mind providing for their children - as long as those children could learn to stand for themselves of course.

But combined with that income, and Kaname's government checks, they honestly haven't needed to get any jobs yet.

Anna took a bite of her sandwich. "Hmm, That would probably be better than getting our old one repaired. Especially if it's only going to break down again in a few weeks."

"Hey, Kaname! Anna!" A voice called their names. The two turned their heads up to see their friend, Shinozuka Youta walking towards them. "Did you see that thing in front of the station?" He asked.

"That thing in front of the station?" Kaname repeated, confused. "Why Shinozuka? Is there a new shop there?"

"No," the beta shook his head. "It's this thing here." He said, turning his phone screen toward them. "It's a mysterious human-shaped street art that's causing a commotion in the city."

Anna's eyes lit up in excitement. "Oh, I was just talking to him about it this morning." You could hear hints of her British accent from her fathers side leak through with her excitement. "It's always so cool how they appear out of the blue."

"Yeah," Shinozuka nodded, "And no one knows who's carvin them in."

"Yeah, but isn't this worse than graffiti?" The alpha comments.

"Kanane, Anna, Shinozuka. Have you seen Hamada?" Kyouda asks.

"What? Hamada? He didn't come today." Kaname answers.

"I haven't seen him around today, either. Sorry." Anna shakes her head.

"Shit." The man curses.

"Are you all right?" The omega asks, concerned.

"I'm fine" Kyouda answers stiffly. "So he really didn't come to school. I won't believe that message."

"What happened?" Kaname asks, snapping the man out of his muttering.

"What?" He asks, startled. "It's nothing."

"That reminds me, both you and Hamada bought new bikes recently, right?" Kaname asks. "Did you guys find some sweet part-time work? Hook me up if they need anyone else!"

"N-No. It's not anything like that." Kyouda answers, looking away. "Nothin' like… Anyway, if you happen to see Hamada, let me know! Please!"

"Sure." The omega nods. "Would you like us to let him know that you're looking for him?"

"Yes please."

"Oh, yeah, I just remembered. He sent me some notification last night." Kaname mentions.

"Oh yeah." Anna's eyes widen. "It was super late at night. I wonder what he was doing so late."

Kaname opens up the chat. "What is this? A free-to-play game?"

Anna looks over the alpha's shoulder, "It looks kind of childish."

"Is he so into this game that he's ditching school?" Kaname jokes.

"This is just promotional spam. Don't fall for it." Shinozuka warns him.

"But it says 'free-to-play'." Kaname points out.

"Oh, I get those all the time." Anna adds.

"And yet you still go for it." Kaname chuckles. "And if Hamada got hooked, it might be interesting. "Let's see, 'Darwin's Game'."

"No, Kaname!" Kyouda shouts. "Don't launch that app!"

"Huh? Is it pay-to-play?" Kaname asks.

"Or does it have a virus?" Anna tries to guess.

By then Kaname had already clicked on the screen and his screen turned white.

He saw a snake shoot out from his screen and snap it's jaws on his neck.

"What the hell?!" He exclaimed, jumping up from his seat.

His vision turned blue, and he saw a single butterfly fly in front of him, before his vision turned black.

"Kaname!" Anna screamed, panicked.

Shinozuka and Kyouda frantically began trying to wake him up.

The omega collapsed to her knees and frantically tried waking her mate up. The longer she stayed in that trance, the stronger the taint of worry grew into her scent.

"Let's take him to the infirmary." Shinozuka suggested.

Anna watched as the two boys picked up the alpha and carried him to the infirmary. Following after them, as her mind remains clouded in worry.

"Are you alright?" The school nurse asks, gently cupping the omegas shoulder. As his mate she had been allowed to stay in the room with the young alpha.

"I'm fine." Anna replied, but neither the nurse, nor Anna herself bought it.

"How are you really?" The nurse asked again.

"I'm actually really worried. He just collapsed like that. It was scary. What if this is something really serious." Anna replied, nearly choking from the lump in her throat.

"I'm sure he's fine. He's a perfectly healthy, young alpha. And as I'm sure you know, alpha's do tend to be stronger, and naturally healthier than betas. So as long as he hasn't regularly been drinking, smoking, or taking drugs. I'm sure this isn't anything major."

"No, he hasn't." the omega answered, laughing lightly. She used the back of her thumb to wipe the tears that were begging to form at the corner of her eyes. "I'm a bit of a health nut, and just generally like to stay away from those things."

"That's good then. So you shouldn't worry. He most likely just hasn't been drinking enough water lately and collapsed as a result. He'll wake up soon. I'm assuming you'd like to stay here?" The nurse asked.

"Yes please." Anna nodded gratefully. "I guess I should probably go tell my teacher then." She said, hesitant to leave Kaname's side.

"No, that's fine." The nurse shook her head. "You stay here, I'll handle it."

"Oh, thank you so much." Anna smiles, bowing down a little.

The nurse then walked to her desk to make a phone call.

Anna turned her attention back to her boyfriend, who looked like he was just sleeping. Gently clasping his hand in her own, she rubbed her thumb over the back of his hand soothingly. "Please wake up soon Kaname."

*****

Kaname's eyes shot open, and he pushed himself up off the bed. Only to feel a gentle hand on his back, and one on his shoulder, supporting him. He turned his head to see Anna looking at him, with a concerned face, the corner of his eyes looked a little puffy.

"Are you all right?" She asked, eyebrows scrunched together.

"I'm fine." He answered, rubbing the side of his neck.

"Oh, Sudo. You're awake?" The nurse noticed, entering the room. "You fainted in your classroom. How do you feel? Do you think you can return to class?"

"No." He answered. "I feel awful. Can I go home for the day?" He requested.

"That's smart. I was actually gonna suggest the same thing." The omega nodded. "I've actually already filled out the form, you just need to sign it."

"Ok. Well then, like Anna just said. All you need to do is sign the form. Anna has a test last period. So she won't be allowed to be dismissed. I'm sorry." The nurse told the couple.

Kaname turned to Anna but she already shook her head. "You should rest. Go home. I'll go home with a friend."

"Alright then." The alpha nodded, he took the form and the pen. But the cat pen slipped from his fingers and rolled underneath the bed.

"Are you alright?" The school nurse asked

"Yeah, fine." He answered, reaching underneath the bed, blindly, until he felt the pen. But what he failed to realise was, the pen he had grabbed wasn't the same. But was instead a replication created by his Sigil. "Ab, there it is."

He quickly signed the sheet of paper and handed both to the nurse. "Does this work?"

"Yeah, okay." The older woman nodded.

"Then excuse us." Kaname requested with a bow and walked out.

"Yes. Thank you so much for all your help." Anna added, following her mate out of the room.

Kaname opens the door to find both Shinozuka and Kyouda standing against the wall opposite of him. "What, are you guys ditching, too?"

"Don't mean Kaname. They were most likely just concerned. You passed out, well, out of the blue." Anna chastises.

"She's right! Listen to your mate." Shinozuka agrees, and then pauses as he progresses his friend's wording. "You said 'ditching, too'! We're the ones who lugged you to the infirmary!"

"Yeah, yeah. Thanks." Kaname waves him off.

"Kaname," Kyouda calls, coming closer to him. "I need to talk to you about the game Hamada sent."

His sudden closeness surprises the alpha, "Wh-Why're you being so serious? What's it called again, 'Darwin's Game'?"

"Shh!" Kyouda silences him. "Not here!"

"Hey!" Shinozuka calls them. "Why don't we blow off school and go to a karaoke place?" He suggests. "We got P.E. This afternoon, which just wears me out!"

"No, I have to get back home." Kyouda turns him down.

"I can't either." The omega shakes her head. "I have a test last period and I can't bail. If my chem grades fall anymore, my parents are going to kill me." She answers with a shiver.

"Don't they live overseas?" Shinozuka asks.

Anna nods, "Yeah, but I doubt that would stop her."

"Aww, you're such a killjoy." Shinozuka pouts.

"Killjoy?" Anna gasps. "I'm just being mature!"

As the two begin arguing, Kyouda turns to Kaname. "Kaname, I'll ride over to your house tonight. I'll explain everything then. Otherwise, keep your hand off of it. Also, don't get Anna involved. If you care about her, you'll keep her far away from it!"

"What?!" Kaname asks, getting serious at the mention of his mate. "What do you mean by 'If you care'?"

But Kyouda ignores him. "Go straight home!"

"So about Karaoke?" Shinozuka decides to ask Kaname.

"Yeah, I'll go…" Kaname answers.

"Are you sure?" His mate asks. "Shouldn't you be taking it easy?"

"I'm fine." Kaname answers. "No, I really am." He repeats, seeing she wasn't buying it.

"All right." Anna sighs. "Just don't over do it. "See you at home - don't stay out too late."

*****

Anna groans as she flips through her chem paper, wondering if she should have gone to karaoke with the boys. It sure would have been funner than what she was doing now.

'Maybe I should just call it quits. I'm gonna fail either way.' She quickly shakes her head of those thoughts and instead remembers Kaname had said to her before had left, Remember to give it your all'.

That's right Anna nodded her head, 'I gotta try my best!'. She thought, more determined than ever.

*MEANWHILE*

Kaname had just started a battle in Darwin's Game.

'Kaname Sudo Vs. Banda'

"Kaname Sudo versus Banda?" Kaname repeated, confused. "Why are they using my name? They've even got an avatar of me. And it's a sown to a three-count? I don't even know the rules to this game!"

A picture of a man in a baseball uniform with a panda head, holding a carving knife offered on his screen, causing Kaname to chuckle. "What? That's the enemy? I mean, it's the local baseball team mascot, Banda. Is that okay?"

He turned his gaze to see the man in question sitting near an exit, his knife gleaming dangerously. He then stood up. And…

'Huh? Is he looking at me?' The alpha thought. 'What's a sports team mascot doing on the train?' That's Banda, the local baseball team mascot, right? He's got a carving knife for some reason… Is it for some event? A prank TV show?' He turned his gaze to the side, 'Hey, go away. Don't come over.'

Looking up, Kaname asked nervously, "U-Um, can I help you with something?"

He quickly moved to the side as the panda rose his arm, and slashed down.

"What the hell?!" Kaname shouts. "What do you think you're doing?! This isn't funny! I've never done you wrong, Banda!"

The panda missed again, instead hitting the metal near Kaname's heading, giving him an opportunity to kick him away.

As the panda fell back, the doors opened and Kaname took this chance to run away.

*****

Anna yawns and stretches her hands above her head as she walks home.

"Tired?" One of her friends, Ayato, chuckles. He was a male omega, and offered to walk back with her because his mate was caught up in basketball practice and he lived close by.

"Yeah, I really am. I feel like that test suckled up all my brain cells. It's a good thing it was the last period of that day. All I wanna do now is go home and cuddle with Kaname." The blond sighs.

"I hear you there." The man nods. "But there's no way I'm going to let Toru onto the bed without a shower."

Anna laughs, "Now I hear you there. Though I do hope he's back by now."

*MEANWHILE*

Kaname was glancing at the man in the Panda costume, who had been chasing him and Kyouda. "We did it!" He exclaims quietly. "He lost us!"

He falls down to the ground and turns to Kyouda. "All right, now I can call for an ambulance."

"It's pointless." Kaname told him, wincing in pain. "You can't call an ambulance. During the game, your only connection to the outside world is the app itself!"

"What are you talking about?" Kaname asked, confused. "Don't worry, I got this!" Dialling 119 on his phone only to get a, "The number you have dialled is not currently in service."

Kaname stared at his phone, surprised. "That can't be! Did I dial wrong?!" He tried again, only to get the exact same response.

"Anyway, keep an eye out for that panda. Focus on staying away from him until time's up." Kyouda told him.

"No worries there." The alpha responded. "He's got no clue where we are." He stared at the panda. But when he turned to his direction, Kaname quickly retreated to the ground.

"Shit! Costume or not, does he have wild animal instincts?! Go somewhere else, asshole!" Kaname's phone then bussed. 'Shoot! I didn't mute my phone! Looks like he didn't hear. All right, we're good. No way his hearing is sharp with that head on.'

"Sorry," he apologised to Kyouda. "Forgot to turn off my ringer. But it's cool, the panda doesn't know where we are. But that means my phone still works. Who the hell called at a lousy time like this?"

He slowly began to realise that everything could truly be happening because of this game.

He then got a message from a player called Shuka. It read, 'If you want, I can hell you out, Kaname Sudo.'

'Help?' Kaname thought. 'Is this Shuka person reaching out because they know our current situation?'

The next text chilled him to his bones, 'Search with the app'

"Dammit, he knows! He knows where we are!"

As the Panda began to approach, Kaname began to carry Kyouda away.

*****

Anna unlocks the door, surprised to find all the lights turned off. "Kaname" she calls, turning on the lights and closing the door behind her.

"Is he asleep?" She asks herself, walking to their bedroom. "He's not there either. So he's not back yet. Where could he possibly be at this time."

'Maybe I should call him?' she asks herself, only to shake her head. 'I don't wanna seem overbearing.'

So the omega instead decides to get a head start on making dinner. Deciding that if he still isn't home in an hour, then she'll call him.

*MEANWHILE*

Kaname looked down at the screen of his vibrating phone. The words 'You Win!' Had appeared on his screen in big, bold, capitalised letters.

He turned his attention to the man who had begun laughing almost hierarchically.

The kind of laugh a person would laugh, when they can do nothing else but laughs.

"I am one unlucky son of a bitch." The dying man chuckles. "Can't believe I lost to a brat who doesn't even know how to use his Sigil! Ah, well…" he spoke, as electric blue squares began to appear all around his body, and began erasing him. "The game was fun in it's own way. Unlike my shitty, boring job!"

Kaname couldn't believe what he was seeing as he watched parts of the man in front of him delete themselves.

But the man himself couldn't care less as he spoke his final words, "Well, have a good time if you can, kid! Either way, there's no escape!"

*****

Anna taps her foot nervously on the ground. It had been an hour, and the sun was beginning to set. Yet there was no sign of Kaname.

"Even if he's late, he still usually gives me a heads up. He knows school's ended by now, so why hasn't he called me yet?"

She tried to call him, only for her call to go unanswered. She tries again, and again. But both times, he still doesn't pick up.

"What on earth could he be doing?" she sighs, staring at her phone. "Well, he's really bad when it comes to checking his voicemails. So it's probably best I just leave him with a test."

*MEANWHILE*

Kaname had his phone by his ear and was frantically running towards Kyouda as he spoke with the 119 operator. "My friend was stabbed in the stomach by a random atracker." He told her, knowing nobody would believe the truth. "Yes. He's on the third floor of a parking garage. Police? No, I haven't called them yet. Anyway, he's badly hurt! Please come quickly!"

Kyouda, the alpha, called, "It's all over! An ambulance is on the way!" His smile fell off his face as all he saw left of his friend was the pixel art of his body carved into the wall and ground.

"Uh, hello?! What happened?!" The voice of the operator asked. "Hello?!"

Kaname fell to his knees as his legs gave out from underneath him.

He become aware when his phone vibrated, on his screen a 'NEW MESSAGE FROM KYOUDA' appeared.

He clicked on it with a shaky thumb. Only for tears to gather in his eyes at the single word, 'SURVIVE'.

*****

Kaname opened the door in a daze, he was about to walk straight through the living room and into his room, when he heard Anna's concerned voice. "Kaname." She called, stopping him in his tracks, "Are you alright?"

"What?" He asked, her words not fully registering in his brain right away. "Oh, it's nothing. I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" She asked. The blond wanted to ask where the alpha was, but seeing his condition, she pushed the urge to do so, down. His smokey pine wood, with a hint of fresh rain scent had gone from a nice campfire, to the kind of smoke that almost brought tears to the corner of the omega's eyes, stinging her sensitive nose.

"I'm fine Anna." Kaname nodded.

Her omega instincts were screaming at her that something had definitely happened to her mate. So she finally asked, "Where were you? It's already 9:00."

Kaname opened his mouth, tempted to tell her. Until Kyouda's words, 'If you care about her, you'll keep her far away from it!' rang in his ears like a phantom. He was right, Kaname couldn't get Anna involved in this death game.

So Kaname instead opened his mouth and told her the first lie, out of many more to come. "Shinozuka wanted to stay a little longer. He kept asking me to stay longer, and longer. By the time I realised how late it had gotten, it was already getting dark. Sorry for making you worry." He smiled at her, rubbing the back of his head to ease his nerves, hoping that she wouldn't see right through his lie.

But the omega was just relieved that it wasn't anything serious. "I see, that was all. Well, are you hungry? Dinner is just about done." She offered.

Kaname shook his head, "I'm not really that hungry. Shinozuka and I grabbed a quick bite only a few hours ago." The truth was, after what he had seen. There was no way his stomach would be able to hold anything in.

"Ok." Anna nodded, and instead opened her arms smiling. "Then how about a cuddle. With you collapsing, and my diabolical test, we both could use it today." She laughed.

Kaname smiled, and fell onto the couch with her.

As he fell asleep listening to her heartbeat.

He knew, there was no way he could let Darwin's Game get to her.

*****

I know my chapter seems kind of meek, and week at the beginning (Sort of dependant on her mate). But, I did that on purpose. Because I do wanna show her growth form someone who relies on her mate to someone who can live without him (Don't worry - they will be together in the end).
