Not The Best At Making Promises

All I could do was to sit on the couch hugging the floofy silver puppy called Kachi, while watching mama and all the tall one's sitting on the dining table discussing ... me.

Kakashi sat on my left, while Obito is squished with Rin on the right.

I know from the past year of spying them, that Obito was crushing on Rin, and to my chagrin, Rin crushing on Kakashi. Why am I feeling pissy about that? Hn. Much to consider.

In any case, it seems whatever they went through that had put them in a wringer and Obito through a masher has made Rin closer to Obito. Based on the grin on Obito's face ... yep. Ecstatic.

Although hushy hushy, us sitting on the couch still managed to get bits and pieces of conversation from the adults table heard.

Something about life-force, regeneration, and moku ... moku?

Meh.

Bored, I started wiggling my toes and squishing Kachi again, and looked up to Kakashi on the left. Nodding my head after conforming once more that he's no longer injured, I got back to squishing the floof.

Sensing that I had once again looked up at Kakashi, Obito pouted.

"Ya, Hime-chan, why do you keep checking on Bakashi? What about me, eh?"

*poke poke*

"Sthapp!" I flap his evil claw away from my cheeks and give him mama's signature disdainful stare that she always gave Jiraiya-ji.

Or at least I did try to emulate it, given that the reactions I got were not to my liking, as Obito broke down guffawing, Rin giggling into her hand, Itachi on the floor in front of her giving a small smile with laughter shinning in his eyes, and the adults at the table stopped to look over and grin, lessening the tense atmosphere.

At least Kakashi did not take part, but rather is on my side ... right?

I twitched my neck to the left only to witness the usual lazy eyes of Kakashi arching up to a crescent.

Mou.

Adults Table POV

Minato and Kushina are the least worried looking pair on the table, Mikoto next to Kushina looked like she doesn't really want to be here. Kakashi's father Sakumo looks to be in contemplation, and a dark haired man whose hair looks like the top of a pineapple looks like he gave up on life. Jiraiya on the side looks like he's here for some fun, and Tsunade is holding her throbbing head, nursing an incoming headache.

"So," Tsunade started. "Why are both of them here." She stated pointedly at Sakumo and the pineapple haired guy.

Minato gave a weary smile. "Well, firstly, it does involves Kakashi, and then we also needed someone like Shikaku-san to help think through ... whatever we need to think about?"

Tsunade is not convinced at Minato's weak attempt at reasoning.

Sakumo noted, "In any case, Kanako-hime is close with Kakashi, and she did help heal him up, so I'm here to help with anything."

Mikoto nodded in tandem, "Same here, since Obito is part of my clan, and is a close relative of ours, we are forever thankful."

All of them then turned to Nara Shikaku.

He blinked. "What? Don't look at me, I was just pulled here by Namikaze, I know shit."

All of them sighed.

"Well ..." Minato smiled. "Let's all calm down and talk about the issue regarding Kanako-chan now." He looked towards Tsunade for more details.

Exasperated, Tsunade continued, "Kanako ... she ... what she did ... it seems like she had no control over it, but she managed to heal both brats at the same level as the healing resuscitation regeneration technique. If anything, it was actually closer to what Hashi-ji could do. No. I know for a fact that it is the same. The chakra she emits has the same life-force, vitality, and energy as his."

The entire table quietened.

Jiraiya spoke up, "Do you plan on telling sensei?" indicating the third Hokage.

"I ... I don't know." Tsunade stammers.

"I believe it's best to let the council, or at least the Hokage know." The ever quiet Nara said.

"But she's just no older than a child!" Tsunade rebutted.

"A child", Shikaku stated, "who is of important heritage and lineage, to both the village, and you, the Senju clan. She needs more than just the protection of those around her, especially once they know who she is, even more so since she would always be seen next to you."

"The lineage is the problem!" Tsunade exclaimed fumingly. "She'll be a target not only to other villages, but our own! Who knows what those bastard's up there will do once they find out the extent of her abilities, or even the possibility for having wood release! She will just be like an object in the ey ..."

"Tsuna-chan", Jiraiya said softly. "You know the old man won't let that happen. Fuck the council, there's Orochimaru and me here as well. Plus, with you here to keep them in place, they will never have a chance to get close to Kanako-chan."

"Jiraiya-sensei is correct", Minato continues. "She'll grow up with you by her side, but just with the added protection that is best for her. At least until she enters the academy and makes genin, when she is able to move freely in the spotlight."

"With more people being aware in the village, there will be enough eyes on her, that a situation like Kushina-san's in the past", Sakumo nodded to Kushina, "may not happen. Even if it did, there will be enough of us to react in time, especially if personnel are assigned for her protection."

Kushina silently agreed, quietly remembering her kidnapping case a few years ago that was thankfully intercepted by Minato, and the following few kidnapping attempts thwarted by the Anbu's after that wake up call.

Tsunade groans. Unlike her time, when Hashi-jii and Tobirama-jii were still alive, nobody would dare touch her for any possible legacy due to her being the direct blood descendent of Hashirama the First Hokage. Nobody moved even when he passed because there was till Tobirama the Second Hokage. By the time he too passed on, she was under the protection of their protégé the Third Hokage. It was also considered a close shave as she was already genin, an adult in ninja rights. But then there was her younger brother, who was still growing. Although Hiruzen tried to hide the voices of the council from her, she still knew that they were trying to get Nawaki under 'protection'.

Tsunade wonders if her identity now as a sannin, and the best medical-nin alive, would shield her daughter from the wind and rain.

She is still not sure.

In retrospect, the old bull-headed council from back then consisting of waring clan stickups are long dead and gone into the graves. If Kanako is to be revealed ... she can only hope.

"Sthapp!" A light squeal sounded over from the living room.

All the adults look over to see a peeved Tsunade mini-me trying her best to give the 'Tsunade look'.

They all can't help but grin at the scene.

With silent considerations passing through those sitting at the tables, the silent Uchiha spoke.

"While I cannot represent my husband fully, as the Uchiha clan matriarch, I will stand by Tsunade-sama's side on this matter. I will pass on this issue to my husband, if you permit. Plus, Kanako-hime is Itachi's playmate after all."

"As the Nara clan head, I will stand by your side as well if this matter arise in the council meetings." Shikaku added.

The White Fang of the Leaf gave a small smile. "As the Hatake clan head and the jonin commander, I too, will side by Tsunade-sama in regards to Kanako-hime. I don't think my kid will not attempt to gut me if I didn't."

"BWAHAHAHA!" The booming laughter of Jiraiya sounded out. "Then, we're all agreed?" He grins widely.

All the others nodded, including Minato and Kushina.

"... Fine. Don't make me regret this." Tsunade softly responds while looking at Kanako kicking Kakashi in retribution (?) and the four other children laughing together.

Hearing the laugh by Jiraiya-ji, I looked over to see mama looking at us.

She waved a 'come here' motion to me, so I slowly crawled down the sofa, with Kakashi holding my arm just in case.

I walked (not toddled!) over to mama where the adults are all seated.

When I reached my destination, mama reached out and carried me into her lap, facing her.

"Kanako." She started.

"Yesh, mama?"

Mama gave a small smile. "Did you know what you did earlier?"

I pondered. I nod my head, then paused and shook my head.

The tall people all around look amused at my antics, including mama.

"Well ... I healed", I clarified. "But I dunno how."

Mama nodded in response. "You managed to heal both Obito and Kakashi", Her face then produced a small frown. "Without training. Listen to me, you must not do this in front of others. Ever. Ok?"

I returned the frown to her. Never? Hmm.

"Kanako. Are you listening? Can you promise me that?"

"Nn. 'Kay." I half-heartedly agreed.

I feel the stare's of the nii-nii's and nee's across me.

"Kanoko, it's for your own good", Mama insisted. "Can you promise me?"

"But ... if nii-cha's feeling bad again ..." I drawled on.

Mama sigh in defeat. "Just ... try, okay? Just not in public."

I puffed my cheeks, "Fwine." I'll 'try' to 'try' not to, I whispered in my heart.

Mama leaned in and kissed my forehead. "Good girl." And pets my head.

Well - one step at a time. Hehe.
