Early in the morning, Mark woke up from his slumber. "Ow, my neck?" he said as he rubbed his neck. He looked at the bed and realized that he hadn't slept where he would usually sleep, and had thus gotten a neck cramp.
"Why did I sleep like this?" he said lazily as he looked around the room and realized that he had fallen asleep while he was doing his grinding.
"My monster!" he screamed and immediately reached out for the Black Box. He opened it up in a hurry and took out the goblin warrior from inside it.
He quickly took it in and checked its experience; As expected, It was at 60%. "Damn, 4 more and I would've had a higher-tier goblin. Instead, I fall asleep," he lamented.
However, he couldn't do anything at the moment, so he put in 10 goblin marbles inside the black box and stored it away.
Afterward, he prepared breakfast and lunch for his sister, while eating just breakfast himself and left the house.
Today was the final exam and after this, assuming he passed the test, he would be a bonafide hunter.
Previously, if you had asked him why he wanted to become a hunter, he would have given something that was heroic and sounded good to the public like he wanted revenge for his parents, or he wanted to be humanity's savior.
Now, he just wanted to earn money enough to live a comfortable life and make his way to the higher dungeons to get ingredients to fix his sister's amnesia.
Soon, he reached the F-ranked Goblin dungeon and nearly got into the porter lineup by instinct. Shaking his head and laughing to himself, he made his way towards the dungeon gate.
The Dungeon Association had cleared the dungeon for today, so aside from the folks from the association itself, no other hunters were available at the scene.
There were, however, nearly hundreds of non-graduated students there along with a few different teachers.
'Oh, the president is here too?' Mark said in surprise when he saw the president of the Hunter Association at the scene itself. He was only the president for City C, but still, that was a big role in the eyes of Mark.
Soon, more and more students arrived and it was now time to start the day's exam. The examiner started the exam by welcoming everyone and explaining the day's events.
"Good morning students. I hope you've had a good night of sleep cause you are going to need it. Alright, first, everyone with a Melee Attack type monster, please stand here," the examiner said.
"Ranged Attack type monster here, Defense type monster here, Speed type monster here, and support type monster here," the examiner said as he pointed to different spots in the ground.
The people separated and the disparity was quick to see. Most of the disciples were ones with Melee attack-type monsters, Mark included. Finding anything better in an F-Rank dungeon was hard, to begin with.
On top of that, rare monsters cost a lot more. So, people usually got what was cheap and effective, the Melee Attack-type monsters.
Ranged attack-type monsters, Speed type monsters, and Defensive monsters were around the same amount.
Support monsters were, however, pitifully low. There were only 3 people with support-type monsters in the 100 plus group.
"Hmm… now how do we separate you guys?" the examiner fell into a dilemma. "Alright, a group will have 2 Melee hunters, 2 of either ranged, defensive, or speed type hunters, and finally a single support hunter."
"If that is not possible, we will make the last one another of the remaining one. Either way, we are here not to see you succeed, but to see you not fail."
"That might sound the same to you lot, but I promise you it's not. Most of the incidents in dungeons take place due to the party members not being compatible. Either it is their monsters or their personality."
"So, we will check how exactly you can cope when you have to fight along with 4 people you have never fought with before."
"Alright, start making your groups," the examiners gave the order.
Mark ended up with a group with a ranged attack type, a speed type, a defense type, and a melee attack type along with himself.
The one with the ranged monster was a girl with blonde hair, the one with defense was another girl with black hair.
The speed type was a lean man with a narrow face, and the melee one was a rather chubby man.
"Let's introduce ourselves, in case we don't know our names. I will start," said the blonde girl. "My name is Ayral and my monster is is a goblin archer."
"My name is Seph, and my monster is a slime," said the girl with black hair.
"My name is Ross, and my monster is a Zapping wolf," he said with a smug smile.
'A Zapping Wolf? Those have passive electrocuting abilities. How did he get his hands on those?' Mark wondered. The thin man didn't dress like he was rich.
"My name is Tim, and my monster is a Goblin Warrior,' the chubby guy said."
Finally, it was Mark's turn.
"Hello. My name is Mark, and my monster is also a Goblin Warrior," he said as he looked at the group with a smile.
"Oh, 2 goblin warriors? Should be fine right?" Ayral said.
"Well, it does good damage, so I'm fine with having two of them in my party," Ross said. "Although, I doubt we will need them with my Zapping Wolf," he added.
The chubby man said nothing, and neither did the serious dark-haired girl.
Soon, the examiner started sending in groups after groups of students. With each one of them was a teacher, who was going as a safety net and to measure their functionality as a party.
Soon, it was Mark's team's turn as well. They were given a female teacher to look after them. Once they were done selecting their weapons at the entrance, they walked in.
