Chapter 23 We Meet Again

I woke up in the mansion like before, but it seemed more broken than before. There were no zombies, and I didn't hear the Devil speak to me. I pushed myself up and looked around, but that child's voice made me stop as he stood there in front of me. His blonde hair glowed, but I couldn't see his face like before. It was like a mask, a creepy one in the face.

"Long time no see," he said with an evil laugh.

"What do you want now!" I snapped at him as I still had my hand on my side. There wasn't any blood, but I still felt the pain in my body. I was still alive or at least for now. "Going to make me play one of your games again!"

"Not this time," he replied as he snapped his fingers and the room changed. It was black and empty like nothing was there. "Your body had grown to weaken last time we met."

"Why do you care!" I snapped at him.

"Now…now…" he said shaking his head, "be nice."

I growled as I watched him walk closer to me and saw that my form was different. He knew there was a bump in my belly and smiled. Knowing why I had grown weak. He pointed as he did I moved away from him, protecting it from him.

"Your gene is protecting her," he said, "It's quite a find on my part, but you should be more careful from now on. Next time you might kill both you and your baby."

"Why would you care!" I snapped.

"She going to be like you," he said, "A person with the Echo Gene. A human of powerful abilities, but to what cost will she have like the others? Will she be blind or mute? Maybe lucky to be like you. Weaken when protecting something inside her body. We won't know till the day comes."

I looked at him, seeing if he was lying or not but it was true. He knew more about his infection than any other person but kept mostly to himself. He placed a hand on my belly and smiled as he was proud of his creation. I tried to pull away, but my body was breaking down from the pain. He looked at me and smiled.

"Guess it is your time to go," he replied as he got up from the floor. Walking away into the darkness once again as he spoke, "Be careful and protect your little one."

Then I felt my body give up as I was in darkness once again. I heard the voices of people I didn't know, but one stood out to me.

"Tell me that she is going to be alright?" the voice spoke in fear.

"We won't know unless she wakes up," another voice said to them, "She lost a lot of blood and is breaking in and out of life."

"She can't die!" the other voice said to them.

"Sorry sir," they spoke, "but we can't do anything at the moment."

I sat there hearing them cry as I scream for myself to get up, to stop myself from hearing this. But darkness stood there as my body was in the middle of healing. Sleep was all it was to them, but a prison to me. All I could do was wait. Wait for who knows how long.
