Chapter 39: You hacked me…

Feeling his annoyance grow at the idea that she was treating him like any other man she'd pick up he wanted to snap at her. Quickly regaining his composure, reminding himself that he had no business making any such claims, he looked at the dashboard and put in his address to help her navigate to his home.

Not that it was an issue, but had she been with many men? It was not possible they were still in the picture, since she didn't mention anything, at the same time, he was a bit worried. If she was treating him like this, then would he be better than the other men in her life? Her assistant looked like him… was he her boy toy? Not being able to focus on anything else, he decided to get it out of the way and asked her directly.

"Miss Vaughn, this might sound inappropriate, but I am curious, do you have a partner?"

If she said yes, he'd kill the bastard.

All these thoughts and reactions were scaring Li Naihe. He could not understand what it was about her that made him lose all rational thought. He had barely met her but felt such a strong connection to her. It was like her darkness was singing to his. He knew based on their interactions so far, she was no angel, but sometimes there was something very pure and innocent about the way she interacted with the world. He wanted that.

Raven didn't feel like there was anything wrong with sharing a bit more about herself with him, so she very openly and innocently explained "Oh yes, many." His heart sank. The woman had a harem, and he had no idea how to deal with this revelation.

"You have to understand Mr. Li, I don't run my businesses actively, so each of my subsidiaries are run by a trusted partner."

'Huh?! She was talking about business?!' Lord knew she was so innocent sometimes. Visibly relaxing a bit and realising there was no point in trying to ask her anything more since his original question backfired on him massively, he sat back in the leather chair and decided to enjoy the ride.

He rarely drove himself anymore. His position, and this world required him to have a driver. Since this was not his real life, and he didn't need to worry about being killed at every corner, he got with the times and now had mostly luxurious limousines and drivers.

"Hold on tight Mr. Li, I'm in a bit of rush. I have to be back in two hours for an appointment"

'What?! She had been in this world for less than half a day and already had an appointment she couldn't miss?' he felt ditched, and a bit used. He wanted her living with him, but as soon as that was agreed, things were going to change.

"I'll come with you." His tone leaving no room for argument.

"We can't do that Mr. Li, you are an upstanding citizen in this world, and I…" she paused giving him an evil mischievous look "and I don't plan to be one." With that, she stepped on the gas pedal, the engine roared and they were soaring through traffic.

Her reflexes were amazing, she was almost as good of a driver as he was. He was going to enjoy this ride very much.

Half an hour later, they were entering his compound. Security was top notch, and as soon as they noticed the car they were on high alert. At the first security checkpoint, he lowered the window for the guard to recognise him and let them through. As soon as the man saw it was their boss, he signalled to everyone else to retreat and they passed unbothered by anyone.

Raven was taking all of this in, assessing and committing to memory everything and everyone she had seen on the property, from the moment they arrived at the compound. She was satisfied with the security, but hers was better.

No wanting to offend him, she decided to keep quiet, but if she was going to live here, some changes needed to be made. She stopped the car right in front of the door of the mansion and got out of the car.

She liked it. It was a bit dark, but she enjoyed gothic architecture very much. His home reminded her very much of the Notre Damme cathedral in Paris, and she suddenly felt a bit closer to home. She hadn't been here long, but she was constantly aware of the differences between the places they were in.

She sighed "I like your style Mr. Li, Gothic architecture is very rare in this part of the world." She complimented him honestly. If she really could stay here, for however long she'd be in this world for, at least it wasn't as far from home.

He smiled pleased at her remark and nodded.

"Lead the way Mr. Li…" she pointed at the door waiting for him to head in first. He hesitated for a second but then decided he could share this with her, he cleared his throat and like a soft whisper he said "Rene." and walked ahead to open the door.

She heard him and a bright smile spread across her face, making him stop in his tracks.

"I like it very much" she tested the name on her lips again "Rene…" he was now entranced by the way his named sounded coming from her "and I must also thank you." Raven continued, with a big grin on her beautiful face.

He didn't understand what she was talking about, so he allowed his expression to show the confusion he was feeling right now.

"Thank you for paying for my car." She giggled knowingly, looking at him. He was even more puzzled now, but before he got a chance to ask more questions, she waived him away and said "I hope you were pleased with the information I sent." She winked at him.

'She winked?! She has the ability to do that?! And what does it mean I paid for her car…' he suddenly stopped realising what it was about. 'Oh damn!' the thought hit him. She was the Cheshire Cat.

"You're welcome." Was all he said, opening the door and letting her into his home. He hated having people over, but with Raven, he really wanted to share his home with her.

As soon as she was inside, she pulled out her phone and started to look attentively at something, completely ignoring the home and ambiance she stepped in. Curious beyond belief at what she could be doing right now he moved closer to her to look at the screen she was looking at. He was struck dumb watching her slim fingers scrolling along the schematics of his home and his security system.

Feeling him close to her she looked up at him, wanting to put a little distance between them. She didn't mind him as much anymore, but she wasn't comfortable still.

"You hacked my home?" his tone all business now.

She looked at him like he had asked her a stupid question. Of course, she did, how else could she assess the place?!

"You could've asked me for the passcode" he grumbled, unhappy at her action, but slightly worried as well this was so easy for her.

"No, I couldn't have. This is an assessment and your home failed." She deadpanned, unsatisfied with what she was looking at. Now looking back at her phone, scrolling through lines of code.

"This won't do. If I'm to live here, I need to make some changes." She was very serious with her assessment. Whether it was for her own protection, or his, now that they knew he was under threat, there were improvements that needed to be done.

"Fine. How long and how much?" his business mindset kicked in, waiting for her assessment. He knew he had a top-notch system installed, and his security personnel was the best money could hire in this world, but if she said it wasn't, he was prepared to replace it all.
