There's A Lot I Want To Say

It was when I got dragged to a brothel I realized I was being sold. My husband sold me to pay debts. Eunice saw how shocked Rita looked. Rita wasn't expecting it at all. The story went from typical dating experience to a horror show for girls. "Uhh…..uhhh…" Rita wanted to say something but found no words. Eunice smiled and held her daughter's hand "It's ok. It wasn't all that bad." 'Wasn't all that bad?' Rita couldn't believe what her mother was saying. Eunice continued "That was when I met your father. He owned the place and knew me in my old neighborhood but I never really noticed him. Lucky for me he took me instead and made me his own. While I was with him Davis sent a divorce certificate as requested by your father. It took four years before I got legally married to your father. At first, I resisted. I knew it would be better to be with him alone and not in a brothel but I couldn't bring myself to just accept everything. I ended up being raped constantly. Your father didn't like using his fist on a woman so he turned to sex instead. I knew better than to ask from help with the people I stayed with. And I did try to run but it didn't end so we'll. So I accepted it. And I got you and your brother to keep me occupied. It really wasn't that bad. Although your father and I were never really that close I was able to leave with him peaceful till he died. And with the debt he left behind I wasn't able to take care of myself very well. So darling I might be sick. But I don't want you to worry about it or about me. I just want to have the free will to drink, cry, laugh whenever I want. But I really don't want you to experience any of what I had experience." Eunice concluded her story, her hands sill tenderly holding Rita. Rita couldn't believe her ears and the fact that she heard her mother say 'It wasn't all bad. She gently pulled away from her mother's grip. Rita stood up and spaced for a while then turned to Eunice who was watching her "There's a lot I want to say. But you're sick!?" Rita exclaimed "And you think drinking away your sorrows is the best." Her tone was rather high "How could you just drop a bomb like that?" Eunice got up and walked closer to her daughter "I didn't say I'm going to let myself die. Your dad's debt has been paid and I can now take care of myself now my kids are independent. And I didn't know when to say that till now. I just wanted to break things slowly to you and your brother. But especially you. I want you to please be careful. I know not all men are the same but please. Be careful. Please."
