Welcome Party

"Ms. Rodriquez, I need you to look through some files and arrange them for me when we get back to the company. After all you are rather an expert on going through files am I right?" He finally said after five minutes of silence.

How irritating.

Did his first words have to be an order and to make it worse he not so subtly mentioned how nosy I was.

I can't be mad at him for he was right, I am kinda nosy, "Yes sir."

I turned my head to look out the window not having anything else to say.

He said not to talk to him so I won't.

I don't have to speak to him anyways. We are not friends and never will be.

"Ah yes since its your first day at the company I will be taking you out to dinner as a welcome to the company." he said as he adjusted his tie and straightened his collar.

I didn't say anything but just stared at him and he rose a questioning brow, "What is it Miss. Rodriquez?" I stayed quiet and he went on, "It will not be just us two. The head's of departments will also be attending."

I continued to stare at him in silence. I was not going to speak out of turn to his royal asshole.

As if sensing my thoughts he said, "Oh right. You may speak."

And so I did, "No."

A look of confusion morphed his face upon hearing my answer, "No?"

"Yes."

"Yes? Miss Rodriquez please to make up your mind." He was frustrated.

" Yes. I won't go but thank you sir." I gave a firm nod and smiled then proceeded to look out the window.

"I don't think that I have made myself clear. This is not an if or maybe situation, it is definite now book a restaurant and I will get Maria to send out a memo." he said with finality in his voice.

I didn't want to go anywhere with him and especially more of his employers. They could be exactly like him.

I know I made a New Hour's resolution about ten minutes ago but I really am not good at keeping promises anyway.

Fuck that 'New hour new me bullshit."

I didn't want him spending money on me if it wasn't in an envelope on payday. Its a stupid reason but everything sounded reasonable when you're mad and happen to be petty.

He mentioned his Head's of Departments but Maria was just the front desk secretary. I would feel much better if she were there, "Fine, but only if Maria will be there."

He looked at me confused at my request. I was hoping he would have said no but to my surprise he didn't, "that is a weird request but okay. If it makes you feel comfortable."

Pffft

"Since when did you care about my comfort?" I mumbled under my breath.

"The health and comfort of my employees are at my best interest and you Miss Rodriquez are an employee of mine." he addressed obviously hearing what I had said.

I rolled my eyes and continued to look out the window for this guy confuses me.

One minute he is squeezing the life out of me threatening my future and the next he wants to take me to dinner and says he cares about my health and comfort?

What in the bipolar is happening?

The car came to a stop and the door was opened.

Both me and Emilio stood up at the same time and I remembered what happened this morning and decided to wait until he left.

He noticed and stepped out first then outstretched his arm for me to take.

I looked it up and down then scoffed and got off by myself.

Chivalry is dead.

What you did won't be forgotten because of simple acts of 'kindness'. I'm very good at holding a grudge sir.

I stepped into the building first with Emilio behind me after the door man held the door open.

I immediately went over to the Maria's desk wanting to tell her all about my day and she smiled when she saw me.

Her smile made me feel a whole lot better and I too did smile.

Emilio with his long legs stepped pass me and went up to Maria and she took her eyes off me and looked up to him and smiled.

How dare he. He doesn't deserve her smile.

I walked up to the both of them and heard him giving her an order, "send out a memo to the Head's of Departments for a company dinner tonight. Oh and Marianna would like it if you were there."

She looked startled by my request, but agreed nevertheless, "Oh-Umm. Thank you."

I smiled shyly at her acceptance and looked down at the floor blushing. She was very pretty.

"Ms. Rodriquez we have work to do. Let's go."

I snapped out of my daze and quickly followed Mr. Boss to the elevator.

What was that? I swear she has some kind of spell on me.

The elevator dinged and Emilio got off before I did and gestured that I should do the same with a bow and gentleman hand movements.

Again with the chivalry?

Ughh.

I rolled my eyes and and got off ignoring him.

He's going to have to try even harder than that.

We approached the doors to our offices and we both went our separate ways without a single glance nor word.

He went and sat at my desk and took my jacket off relaxing in the comfy chair to take a nap.

It was a very long day.

I was so tired that I felt myself dozing after only a minute of sitting.

This is nice I thought as I relaxed further into the chair.

Although I was comfortable and tired I should have known better than to expect that Emilio would let me sleep, "Ms. Martinez this is a work place not a Golden Age home. Have these files reviewed and sorted by the time we are ready to leave." He barged in startling me and I fell to the ground.

I groaned out of pain and he left without apologizing.

What an asshole.

I rubbed my back as I got up and sat on my chair.

It really did hurt, I am going to slap him so hard next time.

I looked at the pile of files on my desk and sighed.

"This," I pointed to the files and took one up, "is going to take a while."

I sighed and started reviewing and organizing the files just like the boss had said.

After all. Work before pay.
