Miki raced across the field in Mscilly, butterflies scattering everywhere. Wind raced through his fur, rippling it.
"Miki!" Akito caught up to him, his gray wolf form shaggy. Miki was the only one in his family that had white fur. Everyone else had gray or brown-ish pelts.
"What do you want." Miki snapped.
"Look, I didn't do anything. Why are you in Mscilly? What's wrong?" Akito swished his tail.
"Nothing. None of your business. I just want to be alone." Miki lowered his gaze so he didn't meet Akito's eyes.
"Miki. Tell me." Akito pushed, "I can-"
Miki cut him off. "No. Leave me alone, Akito."
Akito opened his jaws to say something, he closed them a few moments later, not letting out an answer. He gave a snort and trotted away, leaving Miki in the open field, grass tips brushing along his legs.
Miki turned and trotted off, breaking into a run. He sprinted across the field, reaching the waterfall that his mother had showed him when he was tiny.
Miki sighed, plopping down on the dirt, his head on his paws as he watched the rushing water fall down.
"I should have listened to him..." He said miserably, his voice barely a whisper among the roaring water.
Before he could pity himself more, Akito rushed in, his eyes wild with panic. "Miki."
Miki turned away. "What do you want? I told you to stay away." He growled.
"Miki... Miki, there was... there was.. there was a fire.... a fire in our home." His voice was choked.
"What? In the human world?" Miki was facing him now, sharing the same wild look.
Instead of answering, Akito nodded solemnly.
Miki stood up on all four paws. "Show me."
Akito and Miki raced across the land of Mscilly, panting in terror. They reached the portal that lead to their home land, each of them rushing in at the same time.
They transferred to their home in the human world, fir sparking everywhere, their house caught up in an orange glow. "Mother..." Miki's words trembled. The brothers had already lost their father, and now their mother was nowhere to be seen.
Akito turned on Miki. "If you hadn't left, this would've never happened."
"This is not my fault, Akito." Miki snarled, his voice edged with anger and pain.
"If you hadn't left..." Akito's voice was drowned out by a thunderous crack. A huge pile of wood raced down, crashing down on them.
Miki gasped, his lungs engulfed with smoke. The wood was still flaming, and Akito was nowhere to be seen. "Akito!" He shouted, his voice soft against the crackle of fire. He searched for his brother, tears streaming down his cheeks.
He saw a figure through the smoke screen, lying on the ground. "Akito!" Miki raced to his brother who was lying motionless on the ground.
"Akito..." Miki checked his pulse. there was nothing. "I have nothing left..." Was the last words Miki said before he sunk into darkness.
