Hours before the portals opened.
"Heng'er don't laze about in your studies just because you're living alone now. Me and your dad will be sending you some vegetables in a few days, eat them all up ok?"
After a brief pause a man's voice came from the phone.
"Don't hang around with bad influences as well, don't forget what happened to the son of your Aunt Wang. After he went there to Beijing to study, he got involved with druggies and was expelled. Now he's already serving his sentence for the 2nd year."
"Yes mom, I'll be sure to eat well and live healthily. I'll keep what you said in mind dad, your son is all grown up now and can tell what's right or wrong."
Reaffirming his mom and dad once again that everything will be fine, Chen Heng ended the call.
Placing the phone on top of his drawers and lying down on his bed and looking around his surroundings, he was thinking to himself.
He wasn't originally from this world, he came from another realm of existence called the Howling Beast Realm.
Back in that realm, he was originally named as Athos and lived his life dedicating himself into the research of magical beasts and as a combat tamer who was second only to his father in his clan.
The clan he was in wasn't just any run-of-the-mill newly established clan, but it was a clan in the top 10 among the whole realm!
Athos was an amazing prospect in the fields of both combat and research, a rare one in a million talent!
With high spirits, in order to further his research on beasts, he and his team of researchers and combat tamers fought their way into the depths of an ancient cave that one of their team members discovered by accident in a barren land.
At first, they only treated this as a small picnic trip since each and everyone of them were top-tier in their various specialties. Because of that confidence, they didn't bring too many things and take care of many precautions.
However, they realized that this cave was much more mysterious and realized that it housed many types of ancient beasts that were long extinct. With some analysis, they inferred that this cave was unaffected by the changes around the world which was why it could contain such prehistoric beasts.
These beasts were relatively weak so they were able to forcefully contract them into a slave-master relationship. Each and any one of these beasts could not only fetch a huge price, but it would also be a great help in repopulating such ancient beasts.
Once again blinded by confidence, they headed deeper into the cave only to realize that it was much deeper than imagined. Sometime after, they realized that the space inside the cave was actually quite compressed and it was much more deeper than how it seemed.
What was weirder was that the cave got wider and taller as they explored further. While it wasn't easy to realize at the start, it became more and more and obvious as time passed.
After they had been exploring the cave for almost 3 hours, the original cave walls were actually replaced with walls with ancient patterns.
There were certain characters on top of the wall that they couldn't read, nor could they try to learn it. The characters would look very blurry and vague in their mind when they tried to remember it.
Stopping in front of a huge door with engravings they could tell that they were almost at the end of the cave. Just like the characters on the wall, everything seemed blurry when he tried to remember the engravings.
While some people insisted to turn back, they were easily persuaded with the allure of even more fame.
Remembering what they saw behind that door, Chen Heng(1) shuddered in fear before propping himself up from bed and placing his phone inside his pocket before walking out of his apartment room and walking along the streets.
It wasn't like he could have changed his decision of pushing open that door back then anyway, and he might not even change his decision if he was given a chance.
He had a new life now after all, while being a genius like that seemed fulfilling, Chen Heng's life was truthfully quite dull. Since he was from a top clan to begin with, things like going on danger-filled adventures was just a dream.
Not enough resources? What a joke, the clan treasury has enough resources to last him a lifetime by a thousand fold.
Not enough experience? By relying on reared beasts that were tamed by the clan's people to be used for practice, he wasn't lacking any.
Chen Heng's only flaw was the lack of fear, but fear wasn't needed by someone destined to be one of the strongest. In an essence he was someone already destined for a tiresome and dull life, yet still be able to live at the pinnacle of the world.
In this life however, Chen Heng started from rock bottom and studied madly while slowly making a name for himself as he showcased talents he learned from his past life on different social media platforms.
Even if he got bored of studying, he wasn't restricted by anyone to not stop, and life was much more entertaining!
Chen Heng's past world was still quite underdeveloped in aspects like entertainment and technology due to the constant pressure of beasts.
Although they called themselves researchers, the tools and materials they could were limited and similar to the ones of this world's middle ages.
Of course Chen Heng couldn't just leave behind his past life like that, which was one reason why he adamantly studied. He was successfully admitted to Peking University in the School of Earth and Space Sciences.
Right now he was currently trying to familiarize himself with his surroundings so he wouldn't be too confused with the stores and shops around the school
With the revenue he got from Ustube and other platforms, he was able to bag himself a room in an apartment building quite close to school, so losing his way to school was quite unlikely.
Stopping at a boba tea place, Chen Heng splurged a bit and got the largest size.
Taking his phone out from his pocket and skillfully unlocking his lock screen, he opened a camera app and took a picture of his drink in his hands with the store front as his background.
Quickly making a caption for his post, he uploading it to Minstagram and headed back home while drinking his boba tea.
Crack!! Crack!! Crack!!
Hearing the loud cracks, Chen Heng who was on his way back to his room turned around and saw a sight that was simply incomprehensible.
1- To avoid further confusion, I'll be sure to only use the mc's "new" name instead of his "past life's" name unless I need to do so.
