Raine's POV (Point of View)
Everyone here is so welcoming, it's my first day and all the guys
and the girls are so helpful.
But I know it's only because of how I look so I know for
sure I can't trust them after all you can't trust anyone, right?
Glen: how do you manage to smile so fearlessly
Raine: cuz I'm not afraid of heights only the ground
*Everyone laughs*
How can rain be afraid of falling?
*Sighs*
*I think to myself*
Silica told me about Glen and Mac, in her words
exactly they were simply idiots.
They were like most guys who worked hard but were
also always competing whenever new women came into the company.
Glen who worked in human resources was around
30 years old and had been in the company since he left college.
His personality was cocky and smug but he worked hard and was
mostly friendly with everyone in the office.
Silica called him an idiot but he was not because since
he was a senior in HR naturally everyone knew him and would
have some kind of interaction with him. So he used this to his
advantage since some persons would always want to be on
his good side give his position. He was foolish but no fool,
coy and cunning to say the least.
As for Mac, he was a sales executive around the same
age as Glen, known for being boyishly playful, forward,
and in some cases blunt thus he was not always the
friendliest person or fun to be around but with Glen around,
they were the dynamic duo. Always getting into mischief of
some kind. It was at this point they looked like "idiots"
Silica: so, I have introduced you to everyone.
Mac: not everyone, she hasn't met "him" yet.
Glen laughs
Oh you mean "Iced face" Glen replied
Mac tries to hold back, his face bright with laughter
Who's that I thought to myself?
Silica: hey cut that out, at least not in front of rain you idiots.
Mac and Glen got quiet as if they saw a ghost had
passed through the break room
It was too late "He" had heard them
Silica froze by the time I had glanced in the general
direction the way she was looking a chill went down my spine.
I smiled as a reflex; I don't think it helped.
He looked at us unfazed and simply shook his head
took the tea bags and a cup from the cupboard.
Poured out some hot water and then left.
We all stood there just frozen, I can't tell if it was his
face or if it was the fact that I felt guilty smiling when they spoke his nickname.
Either way, he was true to the name, cold in his
expression, like we weren't even there. How can he be like that?
I heard silica exhale and broke the silence and opened
her mouth to speak when glen spoke first
Glen: Dam it, I had forgotten all about that.
Mac: yea me too it's been a while since we had anyone
who didn't know who he was
Glen: yea man, it's great for when you need help with
something but when in situations like this you forget the unspoken rule.
They all equally looked dread
" Rule"?
Silica looking upset spoke
Silica: Great! just great now he thinks I'm like the rest of you idiots.
And since she was here.
She paused as her voice broke almost crying then
stormed off while grabbing me by the hand.
Let's go rain before anything else happens.
