Chapter 6

People in the hall started to panic, because of the dark, but not us. We were both embarrassed as much as we could. It was better he couldn't see me in the dark because I probably looked like a big red tomato at that very moment. Then Matt got up from his seat so I got up as well. He took my hand and we left the hall. The whole cinema was covered in darkness. I turned on the light on my phone so we could see at least a little. We finally found the exit. Matt opened it for me and let me go out first. He was being so nice, my heart could melt. Although I was afraid of what's going to happen when we would see each other in the light of the street lamps.

I stopped in front of the cinema and turned back to Matt as he was leaving the building. I think I was still red, which he must have noticed because he chuckled a bit. I smiled at him, thinking we will finish the kiss, but the moment had passed. I wanted to start talking however there wasn't much to say. It was weird. He looked like he wanted to say something as well, but instead, he stayed quiet. And then the uncomfortable silence came. I felt the nervousness filling my entire body. He scratched the back of his neck and looked at me.

'Hmm, do you want to go home now?' he asked me. It sounded like he wanted to go home and rest so I wasn't against it.

'I think that's a good idea. I'd welcome some rest.' I realized that after this I might have never see Matt again. My eyes teared up a bit but he thankfully didn't notice.

'Okay, let me walk you to…where do you live?' I wasn't living at the campus anymore, but my parents took my stuff back home. It was just a few blocks away and I didn't want to make this embarrassing situation any longer so I said I live nearby and I can walk there by myself.

'You shouldn't walk at night by yourself though, let me walk you. We will figure out something to talk about. Don't worry.' I couldn't believe how sweet he was.

'Well, if you think so. Or we can always listen to the music, right?'

'See, this is what I am talking about, we'll always have a topic.' I told him where I live and we headed in the direction.

As we were walking it seemed like we had more to talk about. It wasn't uncomfortable anymore, he even held my hand. We laughed so much and I felt like I'd known him for years.

'Okay, so tell me, did you get any new ideas about what are you going to do, while we had that embarrassing silence?' he was so interested in this topic, but I didn't know why.

'You're right it was quite a long silence we had there, but it still didn't help me figure it out.'

'Really? Because unlike you, I got an idea.' he smiled at me with a little smirk.

'What idea? Tell me, please.' I was curious about what he had in mind.

'Well, you studied art, right, and you like Italian food, correct?'

'Both correct.'

'Okay, then I think you should go to Rome. Move there. You could forget about that stupid jerk Max and you could start a new life. In Rome, there are a lot of galleries and everything is basically about art. Also, I love Rome because my father is originally from there, that's just my personal preference though. So what do you think?' the excitement in his voice was so obvious. He meant it.

'Move to Rome? Ehm, it sounds kind of scary don't you think? Just pack my stuff and leave.' I like the idea, but I would never do it. I didn't want to let him down though.

'It is scary of course, but when will you have an opportunity like this again. You just finished school, you don't have a job, you're not committed to anybody so why not. My father moved from Italy to the USA when he was in exactly the same situation as you are now.' it was really convincing.

'Okay, you're right I guess. To be honest it sounds awesome. Okay, but I have a question. If your father moved to the USA, what are you doing here in London?'

'When I finished school I packed my bags and moved, I always dreamt about living in London.'

'Wow, so you did the same thing as you're suggesting me now. I see it worked out really well for you.'

'Yes, it was hard at first, but you'll get used to it. And people in Italy are so nice and supportive, you're going to fit there well.' I thought about it for a moment. He was totally right, I wanted to start over and I loved Italy, Italy was full of art, I loved art. Where else in the world should I move if not Italy? 'I will move to Italy! You convinced me.' I said confidently to him whit a big victorious smile. Although I still had some doubts.

'Yeah, I am so happy for you.' He pulled me into a tight hug. I wrapped my arms around him and at that very moment, we were like one. I felt his heart beating and I felt his breath on my neck. He smelt my hair I could feel that, and I didn't mind. We stayed like that for such a long time, until my phone vibrated. We pulled away and I took my phone out from my purse. It was my mom.

- When you'll be home. Should I wait up for you? 😊

- No mom, it's okay, go to bed, I don't know when I come back.

What I typed wasn't actually true. We were almost at the front door but the evening was getting better. We almost forget about the awkward moment we shared in the cinema. Plus I didn't know if there weren't any new plans coming up.

In a minute we arrived at my front door. We stopped. Matt turned to me and took my hands into his while looking into my eyes. I felt it, that was the moment. Butterflies filled my stomach and I started to turn red again. We were so close, but then my phone vibrated again. I took my phone out of the purse and I heard Matt sigh.

- Okay, I am going to bed, call me if something is wrong, good night my little girl.

'I am sorry, my mom.'

'No worries, it's okay. I think I can go home now. I walked you here so there is nothing more to worry about. Just go inside. I will wait until you're in.' He sounded quite disappointed and mad at the same time.

'I am really sorry, I didn't want to spoil the moment…'

'Oh don't say anything more. It doesn't matter. Wait, just one thing, can I have your phone number?' I gave him my number.

'Thank you, I'll call you tomorrow.'

'Alright,' I smiled at him for one last time, unlocked the door, and stepped inside the building.

I heard the door close behind me, I leaned my back against it. I was almost crying, but then I remembered he said he'll call me tomorrow. I quickly went to our appartement and went straight to bed, hoping tomorrow will be a better day. I mean today wasn't so bad, but it was too embarrassing for one evening. I turned off my phone, switch off the bedside lamp, and went fast asleep.
