Jason Wolfe

Being caught in traffic wasn't the most ideal thing to be doing on a Friday afternoon, especially if you're Jason Wolfe. Cranking up the volume on his inbuilt surround sound speakers to tune out the sound of cars honking, he let out a bored yawn. Looking at the time displayed on the dashboard of his car, he felt the sense of dread that was originally only residing in the pit of his stomach began to spread to other parts of his body.

He was supposed to be attending a meeting this very minute with his team -made up of engineers, accountants, lawyers and managers regarding a new project that he has been working on for the past six months. It was in the final phase and any delays could cost his parents company millions, just as he was about to enter the board room, he had a call and was forced to reschedule the whole thing. He couldn’t believe his father had used his position as Alpha and commanded that Jason attend the mating ritual, any disobedience towards a command was seen as a direct challenge to his position and Jason wasn’t about to challenge his father for position of Alpha.

This was only the second time since his coming of age that he was going to attend such a function. Just remembering the first time he joined the mating ritual, brought on a mixture of sadness and rage. He’d rather have every one of his bones broken and then snapped back into place by the family doctor, than attend another one of these functions again.

Ever since his birthday earlier this year, his parents have been pressing him hard to find his 'mate'. He didn't see what the problem was, he was only twenty-six. Many of his colleagues and subordinates were a good number of years older than he and yet they still remained single and happy. He knew he’d have to eventually pick a mate to ensure future alpha heirs for the Wolfe bloodline but he didn’t think one random pregnancy scare from a one night stand would throw his parents into a frenzy. He knew they meant well but he wished that sometimes he was born to a lower ranked family.

Tossing his keys towards the valet, he told the boy to be extra careful with his ride. Grabbing his jacket with one hand and his carry-on bag in the other, Jason walked briskly into the hotel lobby where he sat himself in the lounge. Reviewing the worksheets on his Ipad, he wasn’t quite happy with the projected numbers. Unfortunately, before he had gotten around to calling his accountants, he heard squeals of delight coming from a group of girls nearby.

Normally he would have ignored these squeals and proceeded to make that call whilst minding his own business, but just as he pulled out his phone Jason picked up on the scents of young female wolves. Slowly massaging his temples, Jason could feel the headache slowly spreading. More often than not Jason genuinely felt lucky to be born into a life of privilege, however it’s times like this that being the heir to one of the most powerful packs in the northern hemisphere was a big pain in the ass.

"Well hello there good looking, I believe we haven't met, but me and my girls here can't help but have a feeling that you're someone we should know." said one of the girls as they approached him.

"I know! You must be Jason Wolfe!" another girl said full of enthusiasm as she bounced up and down whilst clapping her hands.

"We've heard lots about you and we're so very excited that you'll be joining our little mating ritual this year. Let me- Kelsey Deluna, be the first to welcome you to our town." the girl said, extending her perfectly manicured hand in his direction.

Giving the girl the most business like handshake he could muster, Jason had a sinking suspicion that these girls had been lying in wait in the hotel lobby the whole day just to be the first to meet all the guests from out of town. Seeing her face visibly fall as he was sure she was expecting him to kiss her hand, Jason needed to send her a clear message that he was not interested. “Thank you for the warm welcome Kelsey, however I don’t want to be rude but I’m currently occupied at the moment. If you’ll excuse me”

Gathering up all his belongings from the coffee table in front of him, Jason walked towards the check in counter and waited in line to be checked in. Pulling out his phone he then proceeded to call Dan, one of the accountants in charge of approving the costing for his project. Hearing Dan’s voice on the other end Jason proceeded to raise his concerns regarding the high costs being approved for some of the materials. About 5 minutes into his call he felt someone lightly tap on his shoulder.

Deciding that he should finish his call before he checked into his room, Jason took a side step and motioned for the person behind him to move ahead of him in the line without looking up from his iPad. Despite his gesture, the tap on his shoulder got progressively more frequent. “I understand what you’re saying -tap tap- but I’d feel much better if you and Andrews -tap tap- could go over it one more time -tap tap- before I sign off on the proposal.” - tap tap-

“Come on Jason we’ve already been over this -tap tap- I know you want - tap tap- to prove - tap tap- that you can -tap tap- manage a big project -tap tap- on your own -tap tap- but you can’t keep -tap tap- …”

Honestly Jason didn’t know how he was going to get through this whole conversation because all that tapping was driving him crazy. Looking up from his iPad and coming face to face with the Deluna girl mid tap, Jason hoped to God that she had a good reason for interrupting him during a business call. “Dan I’ve got to go, but I’d appreciate it if you could check the numbers once more and if even Andrews agrees with the proposal then I’ll gladly sign off on it on Monday.”

"Hey there it’s me again Kelsey? I had this brilliant idea! Why don't I just keep you company while you’re waiting in line. It is my responsibility after all to keep out of state guests happy while they're here." She said draping herself onto his right arm while ‘accidentally’ flashing him her cleavage. Wondering what she had actually hoped to achieve with this. Jason couldn’t believe she interrupted his call for this.

“No thanks Kelsey, I’d much rather be on my own right now.” Jason said politely as he tried his best to not show on his face how truly annoyed he was with her.

"I’m Alpha Deluna’s daughter by the way, in case you were wondering where have you heard that name before. And don’t you worry about getting to know me because I know you've definitely heard some rumours about one of us being tainted but rest assured that’s my sister and not me.” Good lord can this girl get any more persistent? Did she think the rigid politeness he was giving her was an invitation for her to air out her family’s dirty laundry?

Feeling like he had to take a more direct approach. “You said you’re Kelsey Deluna, Alpha Deluna’s untainted daughter, correct?”

“You don’t have to feign not remembering my name to catch my attention because I’ll have you know you’ve definitely got my attention babe.” She said with a giggle. Before he could get a word in edgewise, she must have mistook the look he was giving her as anything but the increasing contempt he felt and proceeded to reassure him that she was not spoken for.

“I have a feeling you may have heard that I have a boyfriend but don't you worry, me and Kyle just broke up last week because he definitely wasn’t from a strong family and I think I’d be better suited to be Luna to a strong pack like yours.” This girl was definitely delusional, he has met many other female offsprings of powerful Alphas but he has never met someone so full of themselves as Kelsey before in his life.

"Look, you're a beautiful woman and I hope you don’t take this the wrong way but I am not looking for a mate, I’m only here to appease my parents so that they will let me go back to living my life. Now if you’ll excuse me I think it is about time for me to be checking in." He shrugged her off and pushed himself to the front of the line ignoring the voice of protests by the other guests who were in front of him.

He knew that he probably had hurt her feelings, but truthfully, he didn't give a damn. He was much too tired and annoyed at the moment, plus she didn't look like 'his type' of girl. Settling himself into his room, Jason was happy to be far away from those seemingly perfect girls with their designer clothes and perfect hair. Sure he loved women who knew how to take care of themselves but recently he knew not to mess around with women that are only into him for his family name Lycan or otherwise.

Those she-wolves he met in the lobby were definitely the type of people who wouldn’t hesitate to throw their own family under the bus if it meant that they would have the chance to move up in life. As he continued to think of all the ways how the girls he met wasn’t his type, Jason realised that he probably also didn't know what exactly was 'his type'. The last time he had a relationship was with… Riley and that relationship ended ages ago.

The mere thought of her had sent waves of sadness over him. Jason thought he had gotten over her years ago after what had happened, but if he was truthful with himself he would say that he had never stopped loving her. He honestly thought that she was his mate, he had never met someone who could understand him better.

Jason never had a problem with not remembering what she meant to him before tonight as he was always either too busy with work or too busy filling that void with a string of flings. But now that he had a moment for himself the memories came flooding in. He can still remember the way her eyes would shine with happiness, how dimples would form on either side of her cheeks when she smiled at him, or how they used to spend their time together swimming in the lake or running in the forest.

Frustrated at how the incident all those years ago had affected him in so many ways, he let out a groan. He could no longer stand the smell of peppermint or listen to the backstreet boys without wanting to tear the speakers from its source. Rubbing his temples for the third time that day, he hadn't felt this stressed up in a long time. As the sun started to set and Jason felt the effects of a full moon starting to kick in, he looked down at his watch and realized that it was almost time for him to be at the Woolridge reservation.
