You hold Emma's hand firmly and walk through the side opening in the direction of Cassie.

The path winds and forks after several paces, and this pattern continues for several hundred feet as you maneuver through the deeper parts of the catacombs. You feel pulled toward certain passages, as if guided by an unseen hand. You keep feeling Emma behind you, sometimes bumping against your body or tugging on your arm.

The passage flows into a hexagonal-shaped room with open, empty caskets on the ground and various tools strewn about. You check through the old hammers, iron nails, and other instruments but find most are so old they belong in a museum—as if anyone in an apocalypse visits museums anymore. You also notice a cracked-open coffin in the middle of a wall that appears occupied by a body.

The jingling of a bell turns your attention to Emma who plays with one that is attached to a string. You recall from history the cholera outbreaks of the 18th century and the fear of premature burial. These bells were fixed outside of the coffin, and a string was connected to the hand of the deceased in case he or she awakened in the grave. The bell could be rung to alert watchmen at the cemetery, or in this case, catacombs.

Emma seems fixated on the bells and string. You…
