Clutching the tigers tail

The city lords wife maintained her quiet and soft image in front of the ladies so as to not break her current image but inside she was annoyed with having to attend this meeting, still she had to report to her husband on the things discussed so she quietly tried her best to memorise the most important parts even if she didn't understand them.

Her daughter in law revealed a bored look and looked over at Ki with an arrogant look in her eyes. 'Hmph successor, they actually call a little girl their successor. Their male successor must have a problem if the family is putting their hopes on the daughter.'

Ki caught her look and smiled politely towards her as if ignorant of the ladies thoughts. 'Yes, continue to look at me with disdain. Do not be wary of me… give me time to grow and then I will come to see you in person. Then I will crush you.'

'Looking at her now she is quite good looking, she had better stay away from Wolfden city or else I will be forced to ruin her. My husband is enough to handle even without his lecherous nature and his position as the city lords son. I can't have pretty girls appearing near him even if they have no thoughts about him.' The young lady frowned revealing her displeasure and opposition towards Ki's smile towards her.

As if sensing the thoughts of the lady, Ki lowered her eyes to conceal the murderous glare.

Agnes noticed a subtle change in her granddaughter's mood but knew that Ki would be able to maintain her dignity in front of those other noble ladies. "Ahem. I would like to make an announcement about the successor situation and the current family background."

"Oh sister do you really need to confirm the child so early? I think you should wait until you can confirm if Leon would be suitable for the position. After all Adam is the current head of the family so naturally his son would inherit the family, many men will be lining up to marry little Ki so what's the point in giving her that position if she marries out of the family?" Celene tried her best to provoke her sister with her one sided thoughts.

Agnes glared at her sister before letting out a sigh. "I thought in your old age you would of grown up but I guess you are still so foolish. Our family is a family of merchants, it is not restricted by rules or bias. Don't you remember how I inherited the family in the first place?"

Celene frowned. "That was only because there was no male successor at the time."

"So stupid." Agnes shook her head in disappointment. "Our father though he did indeed wish for a son did wish to pass on the business but not for the reason you were thinking. This world is much harsher on women so the road to walk will be tougher for us, that was his care and love for us both. You never truly understood him but I did. He valued talents and effort the most so began to educate us both at first but found that I had the talents to make the family continue the family line through to next generation and continue to prosper. You on the other hand had different thoughts and wished to live in the city because you were too lazy to put in the effort to work in order to live."

Celene bit her lips in frustration. "Y..you! How could you be so rude to me?"

Agnes looked at her sister as if she were a stranger. "I have had enough of putting up with you. I endured when you left me alone to manage the family alone to live a lavish life. After my efforts bore fruit and I lost my husband you did not appear in my life until you got yourself into trouble along with your husband. You have not shown me any thanks or respect for helping pull you from that hole you dug yourself and yet you have the nerve to question how I manage my families business! You have the nerve to show up at my home after I helped you in order to get further support for your grandsons even after I had provided your son with a job? You have the nerve to question me over Ki's qualifications? She is the one I taught personally! She will surely grow to be a talented person, even the businesses I supported to be built under her name have been supported personally by me. Do you know why?! Because she is my successor! Even if her businesses fail in the future she can just take them as a learning experience because she is the child who has inherited the Bombyx families bloodline the most! I will never take back my words!"

Hearing the roar from Agnes, the wife of the Lenox family began to feel a layer of sweat forming on her back. 'We were wrong. So very wrong! We have tugged on the tigers tail!'

Ki revealed a look of shock before revealing a small smile. 'I have never heard grandmother ever shout like this before. So domineering! So much for her previous words of not being overly arrogant or humble. Pfft.'

Elizabeth tried her best to coax her mother in order not to affect her health with her being so angered. "Mom don't mind it too much, let's take a second to calm down."

"Fine… sigh…" Agnes took a couple of seconds to calm down while the other ladies backs had stiffened at witnessing the kind old lady suddenly turn into a ferocious predator. "Anyways, I believe that Ki is connected with our future path so while she grows up we will handle the family business until she is fully grown. I hope that her businesses are a success, personally with my experience I believe they are worth supporting. Back in the past the family were merchants who managed to grow at a large scale within the capital enough to cause the envy of many. After our retreat we stayed out of most businesses that had competition with the bigger families so we were able to make a living by selling silk for a very long time. Now I would like to announce that we will slowly begin to step back out into the world rather than secluding ourselves."
