Worries

As the family left the Bombyx families land, Elizabeth sat with her daughter and asked. "Did we go too far?"

She was worried that she was too harsh on her own mother and father, even if they had somewhat neglected her and favoured the son over the daughter… she was still an obedient daughter back then.

Many years of separation may have made her more distant from them and their actions only helped her decide that it was best to no longer have any relations with them but there are still those distant memories where she was given a tiny amount of care during her time growing up.

She also knew of the relationship between her mother and her father which was somewhat distant and how her father had always focussed on his own pursuits rather than the family.

Her mother had a quiet personality and rarely spoke up unless it was something of importance but still her voice had very little sway over the ongoings inside or outside of the family.

Ki shook her head. "If you are worried about her then we can always keep gathering information. I was going to do that anyways because I do not wish for a repeat of the past events that happened with grandmothers sisters family and what happened as a result of it."

She then continued. "If we did not expose that we knew of their situation and brought up many if those things related to their family to show how much we knew and that they had offended us, they would still have believed that they could find a way to fool us or make us have some sympathy for their situation. When your father had known this, he could only resort to other tricks even if it meant acting pitiful and bowing his head for his goals. This kind of person knows no shame and only wishes to continue climbing higher and higher. He would never be satisfied with just us helping them once, eventually there would be yet another emergency and perhaps an even larger request."

Elizabeth frowned. "Would he really do that? I know my father is an ambitious person but there must be a limit to how shameless a nobleman can act."

Ki sighed. "If this was before then he may not have done so but it seems that he may have changed a lot over the years after being kicked out of the Capital. His character is the kind that I dislike… he would be affectionate or put on various acts to lower your guard to push his own purpose and get what he wants. If he succeeds then he will continue to test the boundaries of the relationships he has while counting his gains. This kind of person is not loyal to anyone but himself and even if we did provide support or a mutually beneficial deal of some sort, he would find a way to exploit it or work with others at the same time to get the maximum benefits. What we give them.. they will not be grateful for and take it all for granted."

Ki continued. "What I fear most is them getting involved with various groups of people that may be considered as dangerous. All they need to do is let slip some information about our family and we could have a target appear on our backs again."

Her mothers father had bowed too easily to get what he wanted which showed the greed or desperation the family had but what was hidden beneath that was even more complicated.

A former nobleman from the Capital who had abandoned his pride to kneel to his previously discarded chess piece was an act which required a high degree of control over his emotions.

Even if Elizabeth had been fooled and satisfied his wishes, he may hold a grudge for being forced to kneel down and lower his head to get what he wanted.

He had his pride but he was also shameless or desperate enough to act this way which showed his complex feelings.

It was hard to say if he would hold resentment against the Bombyx family even if they had given him support in some way after that line had already been crossed.

There are many people who appear obedient and kneel down before people of a higher standing than them but hold a deep grudge in their hearts that they hold onto for a very long time until an opportunity presents itself.

Since the old man is loyal only to himself and may also hold a grudge, it would not be an overestimation to say that whether the support was or wasn't given, he may possibly being trouble to the Bombyx family in some way in the future.

The best option was to either cut ties with them completely or simply eliminate them before they could cause trouble.

Another option was to keep an eye on their actions and wait to see what trouble they could attract to them.

With the state of the city that they live in from the power struggles, it would definitely attract outside attention which would lead to outside forces investigating the two sides and supporting one side.

There is also a possibility that the enemy family is a part of a large faction that cannot be offended so the Bombyx family interfering will only bring more trouble to them.

The Unorthadox Alliance or the Blood Sect do have various hidden connections to many noble families so it wasn't wrong to suspect that their enemies may have some outside support so that the city could be controlled by them like Wolfden city had been on the path to.

The worst case scenario was the old man being in a desperate enough situation that he would willingly join hands with such groups of people to rise higher or survive and use some information that he knew about the family as a bargaining chip.

Elizabeth replied with a hoarse voice. "What do you mean?"
