Ice and Snow #1

The howls and snarls of the wolves were heard from within the protection of the carriages as several people were hiding within where it was safe.

The wolves were frighteningly close to reaching near them as they were about to run into those that had formed a formation.

A wolf leapt into the air which had been the first one ahead of the pack which had aimed to pounce onto the person and bring them down to the ground before sinking its teeth into their throat.

A hungry look appeared in its eyes as its mouth opened wide and its claws on its front paws had been pointed towards its prey which it would hang onto. "Awooo."

However just as it was approaching its target, a figure pushed through the formation and appeared under its body which was in the air.

The figure had silver white hair and a flawless but cold and beautiful appearance.

Her hair glittered and was well matched with the arctic environment.

Each step that she took on the snowy and icy terrain was unhindered as if she was a fairy of ice and snow.

Her light footsteps on the top of the snow did not allow her feet to sink deep into the snow while the icy areas only aided her movements and the sword movement she performed.

Where a normal person would have been slowed down by the snow or had tripped and veered of course during their attack, Lumi calmly stepped on the snow then slid across the patch of ice elegantly.

As she had passed under the wolf which was in the air, her movements on the ice only helped to aid the precise and sharp piercing strike of her sword. "Ha.."

Her breathing pattern was steady and the tip of the sword entered the throat of the wolf then continued to create a long cut across the body which had happened as a result of her continuing with her sliding posture on the icy terrain.

Her wolf let out a shriek once it had received a fatal injury then fell down a little before reaching its intended target.

It felt like it had been stabbed by a very cold icicle which had fallen from a glacial cave once the sword had penetrated its neck.

The sword which Lumi was using was a famous sword and although it had been altered in appearance a little to avoid other recognising it, its sharpness and coldness were not diminished in any way.

Upon killing her target, Lumi coldly said to herself in a low voice. "One."

Once she had removed the sword from the body and continued on her path, she shifted her body weight a little to avoid the bite of a wolf that bit had attacked her.

Another figure appeared beside the wolf with similar graceful steps and passed by it delivering a clean cut to the throat then spun her body on the ice to deliver another cut towards the throat of another wolf.

It was Rayleigh who had stolen the kill before Lumi could counterattack then began her own assault on the attacking wolves. "Two."

A smirk appeared on her face as she had surpassed Lumi but then she heard a cold voice behind her. "Two."

Lumi slid on her knees and avoided the bite of a wolf that ran by her then her sword pierced into its throat before flicking to the side to open the wound more as she passed by which had aided her in removing it quickly.

Her body spun a little on the ice and she climbed to her feet while jumping towards the side of another wolf.

Her physical strength and mastery over her environment, sword and body let her achieve feats that were beyond normal human capabilities and looked completely natural.

The same was true for Rayleigh who moved around in the arctic environment and each of the obstructions did not present her with a disadvantage but instead aided her.

The strong, cold and sharp wind that would usually cause other to have their movements or vision hindered did not seem to affect her.

If anything, the cold winds only seemed to aid her movements as if she was a snow and wind fairy which was moving to aid them.

The facts were the opposite though since Lumi and Rayleigh were using their mastery and insights into their own martial arts to use their environment to their advantage.

The snow would be sunken into by others but not them.

The icy paths would be slipped on and others would slide while being unable to regain control of their movements or path but they could use it to their advantage.

The cold and sharp winds would caused others to shiver and close their eyes while their hearing would be obstructed and their attacks would be met with resistance but it was the opposite for Lumi and Rayleigh who would follow the path of the wind to help turn their bodies where they needed to go and help direct their swords towards their target with a greater force rather than obstructing it.

Those that were behind them and had been confronted with the wolves that slipped through were very excited upon seeing their display.

Whether it was sword, axe, spear, shield, dagger, scythe or fist that was struck forward towards the incoming wolves, they were each displaying their invigorated confidence and excitement from watching the strong and beautiful display given by the two young ladies. "Come on! We cannot be shown up!"

"Men! Now is your time to show your worth!"

"Come on you mongrels!"

It did not matter whether it was those chosen to escort the Bombyx family by Ki or those that had been sent by Northern Warlord Sect, each of them had experienced the same feeling of their blood boiling and their excitement reaching the peak.

The wolves that reached them only seemed to have reached a sturdy wall which followed with the wolves jumping or running towards their own deaths.

Ki watched from the back with her arms crossed over her chest while a calculative look appeared on her face. 'Really.. it is shameful to be underestimated this much.'

While she had remained low key for a long time and did not like to expose her own strength or the influence that she held, it was shameful for her to be underestimated in such a way that the opponents had believed that a pack of starving wolves would scare her off or take her life.

Ki had guessed that who ever was behind the incident had believed her and her family to be weak and easily scared.

They would have believed that a single group of starving wolves would teach her where her place was and where she should remain.

If a normal merchant family came to the north then such a tactic would work to send back or eliminate them which would leave those who had plotted such a thing feeling proud of themselves.

Unfortunately the Bombyx family had grown far beyond their knowledge or expectations.

The main forces of the Bombyx family did not need to be shown or put to use for such a trivial task as eliminating some wolves.

The only reason why Lumi and Rayleigh had been allowed to make a move was because it was beneficial for their training and to improve the mastery of their own martial arts.

Although they had made trips to the villages and the secret training room of their former sect, there were not always real life and death experiences to be had in the north where they could gain the most growth and mastery over their martial arts.

They were still at the stages in their martial arts where their ice or snow qi was not yet solidified and used outside of their bodies so the type of martial arts they used would not be exposed or recognised so easily.

Each of their movements continued as they cut into the wolf packs and took the lives of them with very precise sword thrusts and cuts while they moved around unhindered as if they were performing a ritual or dance within the snow.

As Ki watched them from far away, she was happy to see the improvements they had made over the years and could already see Rayleigh slowly transforming into the image she had in her mind from her previous life.

The snow and ice fairy of the central lands was a name known far and wide because of her impeccable sword skills and her perfect movements while her strength and cold qi was a huge threat to many strong opponents in the world.

Ki never had a chance against her in her previous life but now that person was a little behind and was working underneath herself.

There was a little inferiority that had been within the heart of Ki from being unable to reach the same stage as those geniuses and monsters but in the present situation, she held a certain pride and hope towards her own potential.

The previous life was the previous life while the present life was the present life.

Her injuries and poor foundation created problems for her and created limitations for her while Ki now had her youth, a healthy body and a wealth of experience and opportunities.
