Ice and Snow #2

It was not just humans who participated in the battle against the wolves.

There were two slightly smaller figures which ran across the snow and ice under their small paws then leapt up into the air.

Although the two arctic foxes were smaller than the wolves, they had their bonds with their owners who already had the strength of a transcendent martial artist.

The cold qi from their contract only helped to improve their physiques to make them improve their physical qualities as a whole.

Their teeth and claws were sharper and more durable, their bodies were more durable, stronger and were naturally more agile.

The force of their bites were very deadly to the starving and weakened wolves so the moment that they bit them, they took out a chunk of flesh as big as their mouth could carry before they had used their small paws to push themselves into the air or back towards the ground.

Rayleigh had just finished slicing the throat of one wolf when another had appeared next to her then suddenly, a smaller figure leapt to intercept it.

Rayleigh did not even need to look behind herself and kept moving forward as if she did not need to pay the wolf any of her attention.

The bond between them and the sharing of senses let her get a greater grasp of her surroundings so she was able to use her fox to cover for her.

When it looked like she was unable to cope or had dropped her guard, it was the opposite.

The wolves got quite close but each time, the small fox leapt up towards their neck area and bit down.

The force from their strong leap onto their bodies had knocked many wolves off course or caused them to slide to the side a little on the icy floor.

There was no harm that came to Rayleigh and it was the same for Lumi.

The sharp sword of Lumi stabbed a wolf which let out a shriek before falling over slowly as it would soon stop moving.

A wolf appeared by her side but a smaller figure jumped towards it and bit down onto it.

Just as the wolf had been delayed and was trying to get the fox off of it, the sword of Lumi pierced through its eye and ended its life.

An ordinary fully grown white wolf on its own was dangerous to ordinary people to peak martial artists depending on how much they had learnt from dealing with others.

In many cases, a white wolf could be trapped and taken down by a group of normal hunters while some would be too cunning to fall for such tricks and would need a more experienced group of martial artists to hunt it.

The danger only increased once they were part of a pack and worked together to hunt their prey so not every group would be willing to face them and they would have to risk the death or injuries of others to take down the pack.

If the pack was much larger then a pack of five or ten wolves then their threat to anyone they hunted was even greater and required a skilled team if they there were those that wished to survive without having any casualties.

They were just ordinary white wolves but it was lucky that none of them were any stronger from eating some miracle elixirs or herbs, if they were stronger then a peak realm or a transcendent martial artist would struggle to take down one of them.

Rayleigh and Lumi both were at a stage where they could keep themselves alive when facing the wolves while they had the additional aid from their contracted beasts.

The arctic foxes were originally below the wolves in terms of threat level but they had gained a boost in abilities while the wolves had been starved over a long time.

While them being starved made them more determined to reach their prey and would not stop, their instincts and previous experiences had not been put to use due to their state of mind.

If they reached anyone in their current state then they would cause heavy damage to those who attempted to block their path and their greater numbers only helped to increase the carnage which would follow.

They were very predictable and made easy targets as the constant attacks from far away only helped weaken them before they could reach their targets.

Those lucky enough to reach the front of the blockade of humans were far less than before and were made up of strong martial artists so their weakened state and lesser numbers failed to cause those who fought them any problems.

The defensive formation and cooperation between each of the groups that were new to working with each other was not perfect but they were able to adjust very quickly to cover for any exposed weaknesses that appeared.

Both the people that Ki had brought along and those from the Northern Warlord Sect were experienced in combat to deal with a simple beast wave of starving wolves.

Ki looked over the battle from far away then let out a sigh. "It looks like we will be having wolf meat for the next couple of days. But first.."

Her eyes turned towards the distant forest area and became very cold. "Investigate the surrounding area but do not split up or go off on your own! There could be new threats lurking around so do not let your guard down."

Ki could see the state of each of the wolves which were visibly thinner and were more desperate.

They were driven by their intense hunger and savagely approached their targets to fill their stomachs.

It was very strange for such a thing to happen out on the open road and it would only happen if they had been placed there by someone or they had been driven away from their home or hunting grounds by something big.

Ki was able to determine that there could still be a threat nearby and it was not wise to let their guard down right away.

Once the group had checked over and dragged the wolves corpses over, they hurriedly disassembled the bodies of the wolves and then packed them away while some kept a watchful eye over the surroundings.

Meanwhile another group had ventured towards the forest where the wolves came from which had been made up of Ki, Lumi and Rayleigh who were followed by a couple of others who would provide a little aid in escorting them.
