“I wanted to speak to you about something, anyway. Maybe tonight after supper we can talk. Why don’t you get ready to eat? We’re having roast prime rib tonight. I asked Agnes if she would make it for us.”
“That will put me in the Christmas spirit. I have to go shopping. I want to get something for the guys and their husbands, Agnes and Leon and Gaspard and Marceau. I also want to get something for you. Everyone’s been so kind to me.”
“I’ll tell you what, my schedule is clear for tomorrow. Why don’t we go shopping? We can see what the windows look like in the stores and have lunch at Le Bernardin. I know you like seafood. How does that sound?”
“Are you sure that you have time to go shopping with me? You must have other work to do.”
“For you, Kane, I have all the time in the world.”
“Can we go to Macy’s? I know I can afford stuff there. I went before dawn and got space on the sidewalk to watch the Thanksgiving Parade this year. It was wonderful.” Kane smiled at the memory.
