My life was a broken heart sealed with a lost dream.
I was too lost in my thoughts to hear Elena until she said hello. She wore a black T-shirt and jeans, her brown hair held by a barrette, loose strands fell over her collar.
“Still packing?” Elena scanned the small office.
“Actually, I’m done.” I closed the top of the box. “Lou Ann sent all the letters already to clients telling them I am closing up shop, and listing attorneys that they can contact to take over their cases. Basically, mostly dime bag cocaine, couple of DUIs, and other small stuff. They never paid anyway, but still had to notify them. And, I just notified the Bar I’m going to inactive status.”
“I know we’ve talked about it, but isn’t that kind of drastic?” She frowned, her lips contracted. “Couldn’t you ask for your old job back at the public defender’s office?”
