Chapter 4

“Is he there, Mel?”

“No. Have you tried his cell?”

“Well, yeah…”

“What, he didn’t answer?”

“Mm, nope. No, he didn’t—”

“Declan, is there something going on?”

“Uh, no. No. Look, Melisa, I’ll call you back, okay?”

“Wait. Declan…Declan?”

Declan put the receiver down with his shaking hand and slumped back in his chair. He’d felt bad enough without having to lie to Melisa, Parker’s little sister, the last person he tried to contact so far. He’d hung up on every one he’d called. Declan looked down at his sweaty palms. What had he done? Truthfully, Declan couldn’t completely refute Parker’s accusation. Ryan was rather…irresistible, he had to admit, and that made him feel even guiltier.

A sound of the front door being opened distracted Declan and he looked up. Ryan strode in with his distinctive grace, putting down designer's shopping bags on the dining table. He smiled at Declan and spread his arms wide as he came up to the distraught man.
