“Auntie Katie!” Calista climbed into Katie’s lap, causing a momentary flinch when her hand brushed against Katie’s chest. “What are you doing here? Is Mommy with you?”
“No, Cali girl,” Katie said with a shake of her head. “Your mommy is at work.” Calista leaned against her abdomen, causing Katie to shift uncomfortably.
“Are you working?”
”No, not today,” Katie replied in an exhausted voice.
Calista slid from Katie’s lap and climbed into Lynn’s. “Lynn can we get ice cream?”
“Your mommy might kill me if I keep buying you so much ice cream. How about we get some frozen yogurt instead,” Lynn asked when she twirled a strand of Calista’s hair around her fingertip.”
“Frozen yogurt,” Calista wrinkled her nose. “What’s that?”
“It’s similar to ice cream, but better.” Lynn grinned, tugging at Calista’s nose and pretending to make it vanish.
“Can Katie come with us too?”
“Sure,” Lynn glanced at Katie. “If she wants to,” Lynn added.
