Chapter 41

“Maybe,” Lynn smiled. She glanced at her watch to check the time. When they had returned to the apartment, Lynn had fixed a casserole and popped it in the oven, so that dinner would be ready when Alexis arrived home. “If she is, I hope she stays awhile. I hate the way the paparazzi follow me all the time.”

“I can’t imagine being followed like that.” Katie’s hand moved to her mouth.

“I take it this pregnancy is accidental?”

“Yeah,” Katie replied weakly. “I don’t know how to tell anyone about it. I know I am going to start showing more and I…” She moved both hands to her stomach as the tears surfaced. “Alexis is going to kill me when she…”

“Why would Alexis be mad at you for being pregnant?” Lynn looked at Katie in confusion. The unseen connection that lingered between them continued to leave Lynn perplexed. It was in that moment she noticed the tiny scar on Katie’s forehead. She shivered, shook her head, and tried to regroup her thoughts.
