Chapter 75

“Why did he jump?” Dreux asked.

The Baret silenced him with a withering look and employed his help in opening the heavy door.

Shaela sighed. She tried to picture Airk Ranon but suddenly couldn’t remember quite what he looked like. She tried remembering him fighting, but nothing came to mind. She tried to remember the sound of his voice but heard only the lonesome wind whistling through the craggy peaks. She couldn’t remember what his face had looked like when he was angry, or excited, or happy. She couldn’t even remember what he’d looked like when he last looked at her—and that saddened her most of all.

Behind her the door creaked open, and almost as an afterthought, she followed the others into the palace of Oriza.

Jaelin craned her neck, trying to see everything at once in the dimly lit hallway. This palace was nothing like her own home. This…this one was different.
