Tom had received an invitation to concertize in Trinity Church while they were in Boston and he was looking forward to it. They made two overnight trips to Boston to attend rehearsals of the Handel and Haydn Society. The third trip was for the dress rehearsal and the performance, and they arrived on Beacon Hill a few days ahead of time.
Dr. Ambrose had accepted Mrs. Lane’s invitation and accompanied them on their flight. She’d left her car at their house and had been driven to the airport, along with them, by Bobby. She and Mrs. Lane seemed to hit it off instantly. Tom had managed to schedule a very long rehearsal session at Trinity Church Thursday afternoon, which, coupled with the dress rehearsal at Symphony Hall, left them a little spare time.
They hailed a cab in front of Trinity Church after the rehearsal. When the driver asked for an address, Tom said, “Where can two guys from Florida purchase decent overcoats at a good price?”
