Tom and Noah waited on the street with Henry and the others until Mrs. Lane and the other two women were safely in Mrs. Lane’s town house, then they all went up to the library to visit with their hosts. They had a glass of Port with William and Henry, then went to bed.
Everyone gathered in Mrs. Lane’s dining room Sunday morning for breakfast. Most of the breakfast conversation centered around the previous evening, until Mrs. Lane spoke up. “If you folks will excuse us,” she said, “I need to speak to Dr. Ambrose and Dr. Foster privately in the parlor.”
Tom and Agnes followed their hostess to the parlor, where she told them to have a seat. Mrs. Lane closed the door behind them, settled in a wingback chair, and said, “We need to talk about the proposed pipe organ for your recital hall.”
“What would you like to know?” Tom said.
