“Before we continue,” Senator Brock said, “I must say that although we’ve never met, you remind me somewhat of your grandfather.”
“Excuse me,” I said.
“I knew Judge Barnett quite well,” the Senator said, “and he was very much a no nonsense kind of man.”
He banged his gavel again and said, “Now, Senators, can we have some serious questions and get on with the people’s business?”
The hearing continued for another hour and the grandstanding pretty much stopped. When it was over, we were thanked for our participation, and the gavel banged one final time.
Philip met us at the door and we were about to leave when an aide came up to us and said, “Mr. Barnett, Senator Brock would like a few minutes with you folks, if you would follow me.”
He led us to a room down the hall where we found Senator Brock waiting for us. We shook hands and I introduced Philip to the Senator.
