Mason was watching Roger and Steve and said, “It’s good to see that they still have the capacity to get excited over something new and different.”
“I agree,” I said. “Kids today are exposed to so much so quickly that all too many of them are or seem to be totally jaded by the time they’re in high school.”
“I think we did the right thing planning to stay in small hotels most of the time,” Angela said. “The boys will experience more local color that way.”
“No argument there,” Charles said.
The boys returned to where we were seated and settled on a sofa, and I said, “Steve, remember what I told you about the flight? If you’re smart, you’ll go to sleep after dinner is served, or at least after the movie has finished. That way you’ll wake up in Paris tomorrow morning and won’t suffer quite so much from jet lag.”
“I’ll try, Uncle Philip,” he said.
