Chapter 17

“I’ll look forward to it.”

I stood there until I heard the car door slam and the engine start, then I went inside to organize my thoughts and get ready for my two afternoon tuning jobs, which I finished with no problems and collected my checks. My phone rang around ten that evening while I was using the computer.

“Hi, cutie.”

“Hi, yourself. Are you calling me from work?”

“I’m still at the store, but I got off early and I’m just about to walk out the door. Want someone to keep your bed warm tonight?”

“I dunno. Did you have somebody in mind for the job?”

“Me, fool.”

“I’d meet you at the door naked, but it might get me arrested. How long will it take you to get here?”

“Depends on traffic. You know how it is. Thirty or forty minutes.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

“Okay, bye.”
