“First, the boss moves upstairs into his new office,” I said. “Then I move into his office, and Janet moves into my office. That should take a couple of days, at least.”
“What about Carl?”
“He opted to stay in his cubicle rather than move to Janet’s.”
“I wish we all had time to go to lunch,” Sarah said, “but it’s too early, and I know Henry has several meetings scheduled.”
“Why don’t we celebrate tonight at Biscottis?” Mike said.
“You’re on,” she said. “Seven o’clock?”
“We’ll be there,” I said.
She and Mike each gave me a hug, then left, and I went downstairs to my office. I’d already acquired a quantity of boxes, so I spent some time packing them until the phone rang, and the boss summoned me to his office. When I got there, I found Lieutenants Parker and Boyer already there, and Janet appeared about ten seconds behind me. The boss made a little speech about the new order of things and gave me the floor.
