Chapter 36

“This is Steve Sanders, Captain,” Carl said. “He’s taking my place on the team.”

“Good to meet you, Steve, I’ve seen you around the building but never had a name to place with the face.”

“We all decided to help you move, then we’ll get our new lieutenant settled in your old office,” Carl said.

“Thanks, but how did you know I’d started moving stuff?”

“One of us saw you,” Sam said, “and spread the word.”

In no time, the stack of boxes from my old office was in the corner of my new and somewhat larger domain. While the rest of us had been moving the boxes, Janet had found paper towels and Windex and had cleaned every surface in sight.

“Now all I have to do is put this stuff away,” I said, “and I more or less have to do that myself. Thank you all for your help. I have a commitment this evening, but you’ve earned a trip to Pizza Italian tomorrow after work, if you like.”

“You’re on, Captain,” Carl said. “We’ll be there, with appetites.”
