Chapter 42

“Well, we could be naked.”

“That would be better, wouldn’t it? In fact, why don’t we go upstairs and make it so?”

“After you, babe.”

After their tryst, they had an early dinner in a local restaurant, then went to a supermarket in nearby Waynesville, where they purchased enough groceries to last through their projected stay. They spent most of their time in the mountains lounging on the screened-in porch, listening to the water, and relaxing. Their last day was devoted to cleaning the house, and leaving it as spotless as they could. They also left half a dozen bottles of wine for Brody’s aunt. That evening, they carried their wineglasses out to the porch for one last time.

“This has been a great vacation,” Brian said.

“Yeah. You don’t have to spend every day running from place to place to have a good time.”

“That’s for sure. What time do you want to get on the road in the morning?”
