Afterward, while they were snuggling, Brian said, “What do you want to do with the rest of the day, babe?”

“For one thing, I want to go visit the cemetery. After that, I was thinking about taking you to that new restaurant across the lake from us.”

“Sounds good. Want me to go to the cemetery with you?”

“Thanks, babe, but I want to sit quietly and talk to Pop for a bit.”

“I understand. While you’re doing that, I’ll make sure the guest room is ready to receive occupants.”

BRODY DROVE TO the small community cemetery that held the Murphy family plot, and parked near his grandfather’s grave. In recent years, some family member had installed a concrete bench with the name Murphy carved on the seat, and he sat on the bench and looked at the gravestone while he collected his thoughts.
