For Brody, the day was filled with learning experiences. Nothing he’d done in classrooms or actual lab work had come anywhere close to the reality of actually having the fingers of one or both of his hands inside a human body, and he found the experience sobering. He was summoned to his boss’ office after his shift ended.
“You sent for me, Sir?” Brody said.
“I just wanted to congratulate you for a successful first day on the job.”
“Thanks.”
“I’ve gotten positive feedback from every surgeon you worked with today.”
“That’s good to know.”
“Now go home and get some rest. We’ve got an extremely full schedule tomorrow.”
“Yes, Sir.”
BRODY ARRIVED AT the lake house thirty minutes in advance of the ambulance bearing Sheldon. Ron was driving, and he backed up to the front door, following Brody’s directions. A slim and attractive blond climbed out of the passenger seat.
“Brody, meet Blake Edwards,” Ron said. “He’s your replacement.”
