Chapter 76

On the way to the cabin, Tom said, “That was an interesting evening, wasn’t it?”

“Yeah,” Noah said. “We had a good time at dinner, and in a way, we were sort of networking, weren’t we?”

“You bet your bubble butt we were. Music directors, and for that matter clergy, have a very effective old-boy network. You never know where a contact like that will eventually lead.”

“Good, as long as we don’t have to suck up to them.”

“That’s not my style, babe, nor is it yours.”

“The audience seemed to want more and more,” Noah said.

“Encores become a kind of game. After the last number on the program, some people just want to go home. Others really want to hear more, and there’s always a few who keep clapping just to see how much more they can get out of you.”

“Are you sure?”

“You bet. When I go to a concert, I kind of fall into that last group.”

“Oh.”
