Chapter 77

“I got an e-mail from my uncle recently. He’s the one that lives up in Charlotte near her. She’s been on a waiting list for a particular assisted-living facility for some time, and she’s now at the head of the list. He thinks that, in anticipation of moving, she may be shipping me the Steinway very soon.”

“How soon?”

“Next month, probably.”

“Cool,” Noah said. “We can have fun setting up and organizing a new music studio for both of us.”

“Precisely. We’ll even have room for your desk, unless you want to leave it in the guest room.”

“No way. It’ll be nice to study in the same room with you.”

“Babe,” Tom said, “you might get more than a little tired of hearing the same phrase played over and over again, maybe even twenty-seven times, until I think I’ve got it right.”

“I doubt it, and I can always put on headphones and listen to somebody else make music.”
