Chapter 101

“Yes, Ma’am, we do,” Tom said. “When Noah and I got together, we had medical powers of attorney and other legal documents drawn up by a local lawyer. He’s extremely competent and quite reasonable.”

“That settles it,” Mrs. Walker said. “Nobody signs anything until their lawyer reads the fine print.”

“Amen to that,” Mr. Walker said.

“It just hit me,” Noah said. “I know how we can handle the funeral.”

“How?” Mrs. Walker said.

“We’ll agree to have it at that Baptist church, but only if the rector of St. Patrick’s can handle the service.”

“Do you think he will?” Mrs. Walker said.

“It won’t hurt to ask. Do you know him, Mom?”

“As a matter of fact, I do. He’s a nice young man. Do you want me to call him?”

“Hold that thought,” Tom said. “Do you know him, John?”

“Yes, I do,” John said. “I’ll give him a call tomorrow morning. In any case, if he won’t do it, I’ll be glad to.”

“Thank you,” Noah said.
