“Use it as and when you feel the need, and you’ll probably feel the need for another week. It takes a long time for bruised bones to stop hurting, and motion will bother you.”

“Thanks,” Mike said.

The doctor wished us well again and left the room.

“Need some help with that shirt, buddy?” I said.

“Of course.”

I helped him back into the shirt and the sling, and we were on our way. When we got home, we went straight to bed and stayed there until five o’clock, by which time we were beyond sated. We spent a while in the shower, then toweled ourselves dry. Mike sat down on the commode, and I applied the ointment to his incision.

“You know what,” I said. “I think you need a couple of big Band-Aids on that, otherwise, that stuff will soak right through your shirt.”

“Handle it, babe.”
