Chapter 63

The entrance was at ground level, but the building was perched on a steep slope. When we arrived in the dining room, which was in a side wing on the same level as the entrance, we found ourselves roughly five floors up, looking out over a golf course with a low range of foothills behind it. Our table was at one of the windows, and the waiter used my camera to take our picture. The digital display clearly showed the mountains in the background. There was a stunning array of food, and we lingered at our table for a long time, enjoying the food, the wine, the view, and each other’s company. We somewhat reluctantly returned to the car and headed west toward Waynesville.

“Babe, that was the biggest spread of food I’ve ever seen,” Mike said.

“It was pretty amazing, wasn’t it? I especially enjoyed the steamer full of Brussels sprouts. I don’t get them very often.”

“You made up for it today. You ate a solid plateful of them before you got around to the salad bar.”
