Chapter 146

In the car, Mike said, “I guess that means we start on the third property first thing in the morning.”

“Think we can finish with it by Tuesday?”

“Probably,” he said, “and it’s a good thing, because that last house is going to be a bitch of a job.”

We sat on the deck at the Loop with Lucinda and the boys, drinking glasses of iced tea while they ate.

“This is so nice,” she said, “with the water and the breeze.”

“It’s one of our favorite spots,” I said.

“What are you boys going to do tomorrow?” she said.

“Well,” I said, “now that we aren’t going to be cleaning, we’re going to the third house and get to work finishing the repairs inside.”

“With a little luck,” Mike said, “we’ll be done by Tuesday, and the boys can start painting.”
