Chapter 19

“Come on in, Mitch,” Dan said.

“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“Not at all. Have a seat and tell me what I can do for you today.”

Dan Mahoney, managing partner of the firm, was in his late forties and fairly trim, the only visible sign of age being a receding hairline. I settled in a side chair and put my thoughts in order.

“I just wanted to let you know that my secretary is typing up a request for a restraining order as we speak.”

“That hardly seems important enough to bring to my attention.”

“It is when I’m the one requesting the order.”

“Tell me.”

“The woman I’ve dated off and on for the past few months can’t quite seem to grasp the concept that I’ve moved on. She’s made a number of harassing phone calls. The last time she called me at the office, I asked Marjorie to listen in, so I’d have a witness. Last night a friend of mine spotted her sitting in her car, watching my house.”

“What’s her problem, do you know?”
